About how much power will this hold?

I'm about to have my trans rebuilt with some performance stuff and I want to know what all I need. I've been thinking about an aftermarket converter, valve body, and possibly a flexplate/billet input shaft put in. About how much power can this hold? I don't intend on drag racing it or doing lots (if any) boosted launches. Already got a Smarty ready as soon as I get it built so that's the power adder we're dealing with.

I had a VB and TC and with 500-550hp depending on the set up I was running, my 3rd gear clutch pack had been very hot and was warped and worn.

A good T/C, V/B, flex plate and input will hold a good amount of power. My guess would be 600-700 horsepower no problem. I just had mine rebuilt and all looked great except my bands. The tranny guy told me that since I never had my bands adjusted this was most likely the cause. Goerends web site has a good write up on what billet and oem parts can hold up to.

i agree with omaharam, a tc and vb with an input will not hold 600-700 safe. if a possible race or any boosted launch is consider...the only thing i might leave out is an intermediate shaft. an input is a must with a an upgraded TC and valve body, and i have heard of stock plates breaking apart so i would go with a laminated plate and the shaft that takes the abuse if you upgrade the input is the output. to me saving 700 is not worth the risk of it breaking and starting your problem all over again. but then again here i sit with my new full race tranny from dusty at HTS. i know if you talked to dusty he could recomend what you need. dusty and his wife marianne are great and best of all straight up honest.

I guess I need to be a little more specific so that everyone knows my goals. So let's say I wanted around 500 hp. What -- in addition to a converter and valve body -- would I need to hold it pretty reliably? I don't want to break down in the future. Like Silver said, it's better to go ahead and do it than worry about it later. I see that omaharam held 500-550 with a converter and valve body. Is that all I need?

I was going to give Goerend a call Monday and see what he thought about it. I was looking at his converter, valve body, apply lever, strap and anchor, and probably the flexplate/input shaft if it's needed.

Add a flexplate and input shaft. You only need an output shaft if you plan on doing boosted 4x4 launches. Intermediate shaft will be next when the HP levels are high enough.

06- Dave will be able to help ya out. with right at 500-550 i would agree with spooler. but if you have any thoughts of starting a race from a stop i would hate to say no need for an output and have it break right after you put all that money into rebuilding yours. my plans are a strong 600 and i wanted to be able to not worry about my trannny when i wanted let some power go. i kinda have just an upgraded case of you.. my billet intermediate was pry not neccessary but i would hate to have to do it again. one wallet stab is good enough. hope this helps but for sure call Georand and i know dusty would treat you right as well.

I have busted just about everything in an auto...modded and stock.

I would not push an OEM tranny with only and input/tc/and vb with more than 500 hp for very long. Flexplate will go next...

Once that is replaced...your direct drive clutchs and 2nd band will go up in smoke...
