6 speed automatic
hello all, i was wonderin if the new 6sp. auto is compatible to the 5.9 cummins. i was pondering the idea of mating a (when available) aftermarket 6 speed auto to my 2004.5 cummins. thanks in advance. no urgency, just curious. later, richie

????? After 30+ Looks and no reply, I feel obligated to answer your question! ------ It IS possible---BUT--there will be a great deal of Wiring and Computer Upgrading to get this thing to work! 6 SPD is Fully controlled by Computer-------Mounting???????--Adapter will probably be needed to mate up to the 5.9 coming off of the new 6.7l!!! That is all that I can say! Possible=YES////////////Worth it=NO___$$$$$$$$$$$$ Buy a new Truck and forget about it!!

will be interesting to find out how much power the 6.7 can make when all the emissions crap is torn off and a few bombs are in place. Hope someone gets their hands into one soon and posts up some results. im with you - sure would be nice to have a 6-speed auto behind my 5.9 but probably not worth it.

I actually like only having 4 gears, but I can't wait to see how this new tranny and motor hold out. Hopefully they get out on the right foot and I'm sure I'll be driving one in a couple years.

The real problem is going to be modding it. Instead of having "bolt-on" emission stuff, it is my understanding that all of the emissions stuff will be computerized and tied into the entire vehicle system. Because of this, it is unlikely that any real modifications will be able to be made. Cars are becoming more and more computer-dependent and manufacturers are making it more and more difficult to modify them. Modding a 6.7 may require gutting it down to the raw motor and starting everything from scratch.
