5" Turbo-back Magnaflow problem in MA???
I want to put a 5" turbo back exhaust on my 06. Is this a problem in mass when getting inspected? Ive heard of gutting the cat an putting a pipe through it and was wondering if I can fit the 5" pipe through the center of the cat with some work? Thanks for the help.

What section of MA are you in? There is no MA inspection for diesel that I am aware of for under 10,000 lb trucks. Is one of the blessings of a 3/4 truck.
If your truck does not cause solar eclipse like symptons you will most likely be fine. I had a 5" Silverline and it was fairly loud. I replaced the bullet style muffler with a 51" donaldson for my own hearing preference.
Truck likes the exhaust..

There is an inspection for all diesel pick ups in Mass. you just did not have to go on the dyno for emissions. They safety check the truck which includes looking at the cat. They are supposed to reject modified exhaust on any vehicle (some do, some don't). With the new system, the state did away with the dyno test, so all they do now is plug into the obdII port. They also scan your vin and marry it to the inspection sticker, AND it also goes into the state system so that if you owe taxes, child support, have outstanding warrants, expied liscense, etc, it will automatically print a rejection sticker and flag you plate.

Ahhh... Taxachusetts... I don't miss it for reasons like this.
I know they sell a MBRP 5 inch High Flow Cat for around $350. Of course, with the inspection and possible requirement of a CARB cert, you may still have issues with your inspection. When I was in Mass I found it did depend on what station was doing the inspection.

and if you fit into these catagories, then yes, you should be flagged. anyone who has the extra $$$ to install a 5" exhuast on their vehicle, should take care of any of the above FIRST...especially CHILD SUPPORT

i would say "yes", if your a good fabricator and have or know someone who can weld, then it is possible. however, i'm not sure how "close" the techs performing the inspection will look. if they would actually detect the mod?

the welding and the fabrication is no problem...im just curious if a 5" pipe will physically fit without cutting the entire thing open and redesigning it. Imm looking for more jam a ice pick through it a few times then whack a 5" exaust pipe through it.

I have the same exhaust and i just took the factory cat and cut the 4 inch openings up to 5 inch and welded the extra piece that came with the kit for long beds up to it. Easy to pull in and out at time of smog check. I have had it dynod bith with cat in and out not a huge dif. I actually think the truck pulls a little harder with the cat in. Just noticed yo have the long bed you should be able to get some 5 inch pipe from an exhaust shop to make the cat. just make it the same length as the piese that deletes the cat

I have the two 5" to 4" adapters that came with my 5" exhaust if somebody needs them as I didn't retain the cat. Quick/easy way to throw the cat in place if you need it for inspection.
