Question 5.5" Aluminum tubing for intake?

Been looking around here locally (Tacoma, Bremerton & Port Orchard) for the past 2 weeks for 5.5"dia x 8"lth round aluminum tubing to replace the stock plastic intake tubing. From what I'm getting is that it's an odd ball size. Any of you WA state guy's know of a place to get it? One machine shop locally said they could flare 5" for $30.00 each side. If that is the case I'll spring for the torque tube and be done with it.

Air Flow Systems is where I bought the materials for my intake. I know they stock the 5.5" pipe. See link in AK RAM's post.

Is that thing a silencer? If it is removed and replaced is there a performance advantage to be had?

No, I'm refering to the plastic tubing that is connected to two 90 degree elbows that attach to your air box/intake system and to your turbo inlet. The stock plactic tubing is very restrictive, I removed the "X" vane and ribbing from mine. I'm looking to dress up the underhood area and intake with polished parts. As for performance enhancing, it cant hurt. It also allows that sweet sound of the turbo to come alive. I haven't had the chance to remove the silencer ring yet, but when I do get time you can bet it will be gone faster than a car parked on the streets of NY with the keys left in it.

I thought the stock intake tubing was 4"?? I haven't measured it but that's what I thought it was. Is the turbo inlet 5.5"?

4" tubing is way to small. In reality 5" is a tad bit small also, but I have heard of guy's using it and really cranking down on the elbow clamps. 5.5" dia is tight fit but works best. I prefer not to encounter intake system leaks.

Called those guy's, they have it in stock and will cut it to my desired length. I'll be driving down tomorrow, after I drop off the wifes car at the Audi dealer in Tacoma. Cost less then I expected. Actually sorta surprised me. I maybe considering stainless if the have it.

What is the point of the larger diameter middle piece in the intake system? The turbo inlet is 4". The airbox outlet is 4". If I was going to replace anything I'd go 4" the whole way. Anything else, why bother?
