The shift kit isnt much more than the instructions,a few springs, and a new manual valve. The billet servo/accum are machined high quality custom pieces.A properly installed shift kit will increase the holding power of the transmission, making it effectively stronger, provided the stock input shaft holds up.How much HP it will hold after the kit depends on the condition of the trans internally, how high the installer set the pressures too,and the weight of the truck/trailer.

Tim
Has anyone seen Tim (trans man) make any comments on this kit?
I'm really considering installing one of these kits and would like to see what he thinks of the kit.

well I have been driving it for a couple of weeks now, and went to the races once. It helped my 1/4 times by about .1~.2 sec. the shift is much faster and firmer. it was a pain to put in, but worth the time.

SMR has a very nice complete kit for tranny beginners. Comes with very good instuctions all the drill bits and gauges you need! Yes it does cost a $$ more but worth it. It also explaines what and why each mod does to your shifts.

I have used shift techn. and trans go in my 48re and i would have to say i liked the ST brand. If u up the line psi on the trans go to try and get a firmer shift it will force the gov.s. open. And on the ST kit i could up line psi i and get a firmer lock up and shift . I will be going back to Shift Techn. in mine.

I love my Trans Go kit. Really firms up the shifts and the trans no longer feels like a Buick. More responsive and no more shuttle shift from 1 to 2.

The trans-go kit for the 48RE is a night and day difference from OE, Firmer shifts, nice pressure increase across the board, gives you the option if you have a upgraded converter but it does not address the shuttle-shift between 1-2 gear!!! Bummer! However if you install it in a worn trans it will make it feel like new BUT you will eventually have to rebuild and or upgrade but it bought me 6 more months of hammering on it.LOL
So now I will pose a question, will the BD valve body work with the few mods that get done to the fluid transfers in the case of the trans with the trans-go kit?? I think it is just an orifice that goes in the Governor passage, I would have to dig out the instructions to see if there were any more...
BTW the trans-go kit has very good directions, it even shows you where your "*****" are supposed to be!!
