If you get a SBC Street Dual Disc it's about the same rotating mass as a Con FE. Won't be too hard on the synchros, but you can't sled-pull with it either. It does shift pretty quickly, almost as fast (and maybe as fast) as stock. Hard to tell because I did a short-shift at the same time.

John-

If you were closer we could do the swap. The only problem would be the ECM's...

and the fact that I'd have to throw $6k at the auto for it to be right.

I would also say build the auto, the 6 speed is nice but if you like racing around the 6 speed and dual disk is't the ticket, but it is great for towing and pulling.

For racing a 62 VW micro bus could be me up to 50 mph.

Talking about racing, my roommate has a 400hp 6spd and back when I was at 300hp we raced from a stop and I pulled a good 2 or 3 cars on him till about 45-50mph at which point he blew my doors off. 6 spds aren't made for racing at all. They do however work good for making one hellacious smoke cloud.

john, i've done a few auto/manual swaps in the past and take it from me, if your serious about doing this in a timely and cost effective manner, get a donor truck. cause your gonna need alot more stuff than the list u have.

swaps usually open up a big can of worms. keep in mind, your gonna need an ecu, or reprogram work, sensors and wiring harnesses, possible cross member, exhaust hanger changes, starter, and a steering column. (unless u don't mind the auto stifter dangling there) and there's probably more that you'll need.

If u really want a 6 spd, my advise would be to find a donor truck with everything, even if it means spending a little extra, it will save u the headaches in the end.
