48re lockup switch

i am trying to find a diagram of how to put a lock up switch in my truck if you can help please let me know

here's a page from the manual. look for pin 7 at the trans connector.

please tell me what the purpose of the resistor is shouldnt just be able to tap into the lockup wire on the harness and run power to it through a switch the resistor in counfusing me

You ground it out not send power to it, and think the resitior is required to keep away the "check engine"

The ECU monitors that circuit for resistance between 5 ohms and 100 ohms. Outside of those parameters it will set codes and put the trans into limp mode.

When you tap the lockup control wire you need to ground it to make it engage. The solenoid is always powered so grounding the circuit will activate it. A straight ground without a resistor drops the resistance to around 1-2 ohms and cause the ECU to think there is a problem. A 33 ohm resistor will still allow the solenoid to activate but keep the resistance high enough the ECU thinks all is well.

Exactly! I use mine only at the track, have a dead mans switch. Pushed it locks, let off and the ECM controls. It has 33ohm resistor at the switch. Not fancy, but works great and total cost about $6. When not needed it is put under the seat.
