4040 Aeroturbine Experiences
...loving my fairly recent 4040 aeroturbine replacement of the stock muffler. What are other's opinions of theirs? How long have you had it installed?
When I took my cat-back parts to a local exhaust shop to have it welded together, one guy (whom I thought was an idiot anyway) told me that the 4040 aero would not last very long...probably less than a year, I replied that it is warranted against blowouts and workmanship and he just shook his head... Oh well, they installed what I wanted anyway for $60. Anybody actually have a bad experience with their aeroturbine?

I have only seen one fail. And that was because other hangers in the system had fallen out. But Aeroturbine stood behind the muffler and we installed a new one. So as long as all your hangers stay in place you won't have any problems.

I took out my cat and stock muffler and put my Aeroturbine 4040 where the cat is. With in the first two weeks my hanger couldn't hold it together so it came apart near the down pipe and where my 4040 is located. This was mostly because after the 4040 is a straight pipe to hook up to where the stock muffler ended. There was too much weight for the hanger, and too much space between hangers. Anyways, we added another hanger, then we welded the 4040 to the down pipe. Since then, I've driven 2000 miles, a lot of it over a rough road, where I'm pretty sure I jumped my truck and buised a kidney. The only other complaint I have...well, it's not my complaint...people say that my truck sounds like a Kenworth now. That's a good thing!!!

Had mine installed about 4-5 inches after the cat where the bend straightens out and it sound perfect. I had the muffler removed and the 4040 installed and all parts welded and have yet to see it show any signs of being too heavy... So far I love this muffler and have even seen about 1.5 miles per gallen more from it.

cajun, your set-up sounds identical to mine. I too, think I've seen an increase in mpg, but I can't say for sure its the exhaust, because I had the re-flash done about the same time. Today, I was on the hwy for about 8 hours and I was getting 19.5 mpg. My last 2 tanks with the 4040 installed I've gotten 17.4 & 17.5 with mixed driving. Prior to the re-flash/4040, I was getting 14-15 at best.

I have seen it go from from 16.5 to 18.3 over the same route and traffic to and from work. If all goes good on commission next month I will probably add the Scotty Air and Quad standard and see just how much I can milk out this truck.

I'm not too sure if I got any better fuel milage from mine, because I returned home to Artic diesel. Where I put it on I was running summer diesel. The other problem that I have with calculating before and after fuel milage is that I love the sound of the 4040 so the pedal is always to the floor...

I have had no problems with mine, I love the sounds and it is holding up well. I took the truck on 30 miles trip in to Anza Borrego on some rocky roads and had no problem. All the hangers are holding up well, and its all tight.
