are 37/12.5/17 too big for my 3.73 gear?
Found some 37/12.5/17 BFG All-terrain for a good deal. My truck has 3.73 gears and I have a few questions:
1. Will these tires really affect my perforamance, 1/4 times, 0-60....etc?
2. If so, whats the biggest tire size I should go with considering the 3.73 and not loose much or any performance?
3. Will my stock 17x8 wheel size be able to fit with the 37/12.5/17 tire?
4. Will the leveling kit be enough to even clear those big tires as far as control arm rubbing?
5. Also, post some pics of 37/12.5/17 tires on your truck

Without making some transmission mods you will kill the auto with towing or stop-n-go driving. Anything more than a 33" tire will cause the stock 48RE stress in most conditions.

My roommate has 35's and 4.10's and you can't tell a difference from stock except better highway milage. I would go with 35's and no bigger. Not only will big tires be more stress on your tranny, but on your balljoints, steering, brakes and anything else I can't remember. My roommate got his 35's and blew his steering box. Seems that he's not the only one.

You just cant seem to decide on what way to go with your truck. I have the same problem.
It is hard to turn down a good deal isnt' it.
I dont have a auto, so not sure on yout 37s question when it comes to that. But yes there will be performance loss. Just get more power and upgrade that tranny.
Not sure, you may see if any one in your area has a truck you can ride in. Then decide for yourself.
Yes and No. For a 12.5 tire most manufactures say 8.5 minimum, but many do it on 8.0 wheels. I did with my 35s. H2 wheels are 8.5"
It has been done with a leveling kit.
I cant remember the members name, but he has posted before, ill look back through some posts and get a pic up.

Here's my truck with 37's. I have a 6 speed, and couldn't be happier about deciding to go with 37's. The gearing is right where I want it to be now, since the G-56 is geared so low. I tow only occasionally, but had no issues at all with my buddy's 26' Bayliner this last weekend. Hardly even knew it was back there, lol. I have noticed minimal power loss, definately not enough that could be compensated for once I get a programmer, turbo, injectors, and well, you get the idea.
I think much of driveline stress comes from how you drive it, and from the wheel backspacing. I rarely brake hard, using the tranny to downshift instead. I say go big, or go home, but it's your truck. I had 35's on my 2000 CTD, and within a month, wished I had the 37's. Not too big, not too small... as momma bear says, they are just right.

Do it!! You know you want to...
I'll see if I can get a few good pictures with the center caps on so that it shows off the tires a little more. I'll let you guys know.

I don't race, so I don't know. I can light em up in 2nd gear, and all I have is the EZ. I can hit 84+ mph merging on from an on-ramp. But my truck is for driving, towing and to make me feel better about myself at night . If your interests lie in racing your truck, then I'd highly recommend not getting large tires. I care about my trucks performance, and my truck will have plenty of that one day. (Nothing like smoking a ricer with a truck that could run over it too) But I also take mine hunting, fishing, and mild off-roading, so the 37's are more than just a 'looks' thing for me.
I'm happy with my decision. Many members are happy with stock 265's. A 2" leveling kit will only clear 35's. I have a 3" kit, with 2" in the rear (though you only need 1" at the most). As far as control arm rub, it all depends. But I'd imagine that with stock wheels, you would rub with 37" tires. I have H2 wheels that I bought off this site, and I have no rubbing issues at all. The only issue that I have with 37" tires is when I have to replace them again.$$$
Good luck with your decision.
(p.s. I have a few more pics waiting for approval if you want to see more)

There is no doubt the 35's and 37's really look good on these trucks, but, the negatives are just too much for me to swallow. The bigger the tires, the higher the truck, the lower the mileage. Considering the price of diesel and the miles I drive it sucks. Then with the bigger tires comes the handling problems and possible death wobble. Too much sidewall height with the weight in the front of these trucks just is not a good match.
I would much rather spend the $$$ on a Kore chase system and go to a 12.5/33 tire on the stock rims and keep my handling. But hey, its your money and if you want 'em go for it.
