315s with 3.73

Anyone running 315 tires with a 3.73 rear end? I will be pulling about 11klb 5er with a 48RE. I'm not planning to jump into this, but I'd like to know it's an option when the time comes to replace the tires. BTW, I'm not adverse to climbing hills out of OD (had to do it a lot with the PSD ).

I think you'd be smart to pull the hills in 3rd and not in O/D.

With my PSD, I always let the truck tell me when to take it out of OD. If the tranny started to hunt for a gear (shifting in and out of OD), I'd drop it into 3rd. Otherwise, I let it run in OD (watching the trans temp as well). I was hopeful that I can do likewise with the Dodge. On steep inclines, it sometimes became a challenge to balance the sweet-spot RPM (about 2500) with the EGTs (which, without some pedal intervention, wanted to climb over 1300). This was always with the OD turned off. Hopefully, a stock 600 won't require as much work.

It's doable with 3.73's but the 265's are better with the 3.73's.

Hmm I'd never thought of towing heavy in OD on hills. I even kick my 6spd to 5th and let her rev.

I have 245/70/19.5's (smaller than 315's) and a 48RE and I want 4.10s.

The "3.73 vs 4.10" decision was one of the hardest I had to make. I even posted a thread here about it. The overwhelming consensus was to go with 3.73 since most of the time I don't tow and even when I do, it's not all that heavy (compared to some of you). It has never really been my intention to go crazy with tire sizes, but those 315s in some of the picture galleries look pretty good. It may be worth a try some time.

I have 4:10's and 35x12.5's...coudn't be happier. The rpms stay under 2500 till 90ish and there is plenty of grunt throughout.

I tow with my 315's all the time and 3.73's, although I don't have the auto... But, your 1:1 should act the same as my 1:1 (assuming your t/c is locked like it should be...). No complaints here!
