Excuse my ignorance please. Would it really be worth it to go through the trouble of doing the 2nd gen exhaust manifold or would the two piece ats $450. Serve the same purpose of performance? I don't know about exhaust manifolds but I'm going to replace mine too, because of a gasket issue.

Definitely for me since I'm not really looking for the performance aspect of it. I want that hybrid sound that will be distinct. And from what I've read it will help on spoolup and power, and when you can find a good one for 50-100 bucks I think the price and its benefit are even with each other. I would also like my turbo to sit higher so I can keep a better eye on it.

I just got my truck and already miss the sound of the old one. I have started collecting parts and was wondering what the most common way to tackle the air intake and filter mod was. I was thinking about possibly building a modified *****'s Whistler, but wasn't sure if this problem has already been solved.

Also, since I won't be replacing the turbo, is it necessary to modify the HX-40 downpipe? I don't have a welder so would I just get a muffler shop to switch flanges?

Levi: Your truck sounds awesome, and has also been my inspiration.

Rip: Any updates?

Not yet, but I'm getting money saved up now, so I'm hoping soon. I got a trip to Florida and Tennessee coming up so gotta get that out of the way.

And I want Tractor Tunes for my Rhino more right now...

I have the manifold coming very soon so I want to compile a list of parts necessary to complete this swap properly.

According to this thread so far I need:
-HX-40 Downpipe (what modification is needed to fit the stock 04.5 turbo?)
-Longer turbo oil drain line
-2nd Gen Exhaust Manifold Gasket (any other gaskets? never taken this part of the truck apart)

Anything else that I haven't listed? I don't want to go into this without full preparation.
Would a call to Power by Poole give me all the necessary info?

I'm just really looking forward to that 2nd gen sound again!

Levi do you have any pics showing dimensions and locations under hood for the turbo, intercooler boot modifications, part #s (please) and important things to remember? I hope I'm not asking too much form you, but I'm just as curious on everything (everything) I need.

i bought a larger boot(i think its 3") to go from the turbo to the hot pipe because i cut off the small end of the intercooler pipe and the 2nd gen turbo had a 3" outlet.

I dont have many pictures but ill show ya what i have .

Main thing is downpipe, turbo oil drain, manifold gaskets, turbo to manifold gasket and the means to fabricate an intake. I had to trim a minor amount off my passenger shock tower to give the wastegate head clearance .

temporary intake

most important is attach the turbo oil drain to the turbo before hand. Really a pretty easy swap. Only took a few hours.

Sorry i cant be more help i have no part numbers. I got everything from olee at powerbypoole when i bought my turbo
