I need new tires and am considering Toyo Open Country AT and Good Year Silent Armor. Will the 285/70/R17E rub on a stock suspension? Is this too large for a stock suspension?

I am considering a simple 2" level kit (coil spacer) but not 100% sure. So if I do not lift, I want the tires to work with stock suspension. Will my steering be affected? Will larger tires bring about the dreaded 60 mph shimmy!

My driving habits consist of 95% street with some dirt roads and boat launch ramps (salt and fresh). Primarly city streets with about 20% on highway. I appreciate a smooth ride and am not looking for anything aggresive, hence my 2 selections. Any advice on these 2 selections of tires?

Size is fine, you'll notice a small change in milage, towing power, and may need to adjust speedo (but not necessary). I am assuming you are going to run stock wheels? Either way, you should be fine.
I'm running 315's on H2 wheels with stock suspension and no rub. 95% of my driving is daily commute, and have nothing to complain about...
Never run either of the two tire types. I am running BFG's now and going to try Nitto's next.

I'm running 285 Toyo A/t's on my stock wheels and have no issues. Did not lose any mileage either.

Same here. Just have to remember that 60mph on the speedo is really 62mph..... My dealer won't recalibrate it for me without charging me a full hour labor so I will deal with the speedo being off as well as the odometer.....

I've got the 285/70 Goodyears on my stock 04 wheels and no lift. Fit no problems at all. My speedo is off by about 2 kms by my gps, about 1 mph i guess. Also i don't believe this size is a E rated tire. I think they're D rated with a weight rating comp to an E tire. Just mentioning this as i seem to remember some discussion arguing over weight/ratings on tires.Over my head and don't care as i don't tow much of anything.

I have been running 285/70 BFG mud tire for about 5 years now. I have no rub. I kept the truck at the stock height. My dealer changed the ring pinion factor for free, so my Speedo is right on.

Any reason you guys have not lifted your trucks? Even just the leveling kit to raise the front to level? Cost reasons?

Yeah i want to level mine and put new shocks, but i've decided to run her as is. I know i want a nice 3'' performance lift down the road so i can't justify it right now. Knowing me i'll have bilsteins all around with new front coils then months later buy a full on lift kit. Then its wheels,tires,turbo,tranny............

I haul a four horse gooseneck trailer two to three times a week. It does a good job of leveling the truck out when loaded. I think I would be front end high with a leveling kit. I personally like the look of how the truck is now. I have never been into supper-tall trucks. I use mine for work and stuff.

Consider the 285-75-17 Toyo's in AT or MT configuration. They're 1.2" taller,stronger sidewalls on each,and fill in the wheelwells nicer. Either one on stock wheels,lifted or stock, do not rub.

285's aren't even close to rubbing. My 295's don't even come close either.
