2146/2149 code mystery solved I think...

Hey guys,
I have had a couple of post lately about my blown injectors and 2146 code.
I have had a reacquiring problem. I could be just driving along and all of a sudden my dually will start running real rough and loses most of it's power. I have had it at the dealer 2or3 times and they can never find anything wrong. They have had to change 2 injectors due to the injector getting stuck open and over filling the crank case on 2 separate occasions. Well the other day I was heading to work and the truck started skipping and this time it didn't straiten itself out so I drove it to the dealer and they finally witnessed it for the 1st time. So they did some checking and found out that this is a common problem with 06 trucks. The problem is that the valve cover gasket has the injector wires running through it and they have a tendency to crack and break at the gasket. The new gasket comes with new injector wires that are under the valve cover. So far the truck has been running great. So if you get the 2146 or 2149 code and your truck runs terrible 1 second and runs great another check out the VC gasket 1st. It may be the problem.
See ya,
Topper

Had the same problem you described and the same codes. But mine was actually the number 6 injector that messed up. But from the research I did when my truck went through the phase of running good then bad a couple times I did find that it was common to have an injector wiring harness issue somewhere exposing some wires. But when mine wouldn't quit running bad and I left it with the dealer they found it to be an injector. Hope this can help somebody down the road.

Well, I found a great mechanic in West Jordan, Unlimited Auto. If you need help Kris is the man. He changed the VC gasket ($325) and everything ran great, it seemed to fix the issue. Driving out of town it started to run terrible again, so I turned around and limped back to the shop. It was 1 pm. As soon as I got there, he pulled the valve cover to ohm the injectors. Sure enough #4 was way off. It read the same as the others the first time around, he figured this time he'd check them when the motor was hot. 2 hours later, we were back on the road ($550) and the truck is running great, and less black smoke when i'm passing people. Is this something that is covered by the cummins warranty? i'm at 94,000 right now.
