There was a thread about it on TDR a year or so back about it.
Chrysler has a service tool available that is basically a plate that will bolt on to the back of the block and is used to install a new plug. The plate has a raised area that fills the empty area of the plug.
I dont recall what the part number was...sorry

someone said earlier in the thread that the 06 blocks did not have the bolt holes back there??

06's have threads as well.
Basically any 2003CR to 2007 is the same block.
The 6.7L similar to the old common rail block but does have changes (mostly internal).

The 06 is the same block as any other common rail. Tim is referring to the rear of the head not the block in that quote you posted to clarify. The cylinder head has all kinds of little plugs installed in it.

Half the mod ??
Wap, it does relieve press across the thermostat. Takes about 10mins to do. Drain a little coolant from radiator petcock , pull 3 x 8mm bolts from thermostat neck, pull thermostat out and use side cutters to cut the brass barbells from stat, reinstall in reverse. No gaskets needed or anything. It will take longer to warm up. Tim
Running empty at 70 mph it takes about 12 miles to reach its max temp at 160. 160 is about 20 degrees short of optimum efficiency.
I got stuck it traffic and the temp dropped to 140.
If pulling long grades temps will rise to 180 /190 then fall to 160. After the grade.
Do you think maybe only doing half the Mod would satisfy the pressure relief for the freeze plug & allow for sustained 180 engine temps ?( only cut one side of the barbell )

stupid question, but what about the radaitor cap. cant we just put on a lower temp cap and cope with a little over flow now and then , just ceep an eye on the coolent?

The EEP plate is not nearly as nice. It's not clear if that TDR plate is homemade or a Chrysler or Cummins service tool.
Does anyone have any info on the TDR plate? I would really like to purchase one...
