2005 Air Intake Upgrade?
I know this question has appeared repeatedly but please bear with me.
I have a 2005 5.9; NV-5600 6-speed manual, RWD, dually. Stock except for a "Jake Brake" and an X-Monitor for boost and EGT. I'm towing a 13,000 lb fifth wheel recreational trailer. I love the truck but find the most limiting factor is the EGT and would like to get an intake system upgrade that would allow lower exhaust temps on grades or in the wind. I know that's what the gears are for but with gearing down comes lower speed and mileage. I'd just like to keep it in 5th or 6th longer. I'd also like to avoid any significant increase in turbo noise and I'd just as soon leave the exhaust side stock if possible.
Scotty Systems were produced locally but the company seems to have disappeared. I had planned to have him install his system but I heard he was stuck looking for a dry element system rather than the foam and oil he was using because of warrenty issues. I definitely do not want to void the warrenty.
I'd appreciate any recommendations for a system that would work for me if I'm not looking for the impossible. I understand that KE is to be avoided but what about Banks or AFE (AEF??).
Thanks to anyone who can help!
Dave

Most of the guys in my area are running Afe systems, and has helped alot with EGT's while running their edge and tst boxs. I have one on my truck and it improved performance, but I cant say how much because I dont have gauges or my module yet. Afe might tends to be on the exspensive side. The AEM systems look compared to the AFe and believe they are cheaper. That my opinion.

Another option is the Whistler Intake

I had an AFE Stage II and sent it back simply because of the loud turbo whistle. If you want more air, here's a suggestion...

You're best bet for EGT reduction is to remove the stock muffler. It's causing you about 150 degrees in EGT. If you want to stay quite, check out the 30" Magnaflow. You get better performance, much lower EGTs, and it's not loud at all (I don't like loud).

You could also try this. AEM Workhorse. Dry filter. Turbo noise wasn't that loud until I removed the silencer ring. Works great.

If you don't want the noise then stay away from the AEM Bruteforce system. You could just replace the factory air filter with the Amsoil nano (Dry Part #Eaa189) filter and cut a few holes on the bottom of the stock box. This would vastly improve your air flow and keep the noise down near stock levels. Almost any other system and I've tried (I own Scotty III, BHAF,AEM Bruteforce and the S&B with a Amsoil filter). are much louder than the stocksetup.

I'm putting a S&B on mine, another Canadian product.
It's one of them you gotta oil but is enclosed so hopefully the dust won't be a problem.
AFE are all the rage but the price is ridiculous IMHO.
...anyhow, keep an eye on the classifieds of this site, lotsa good deals, that'swhere I found my S&B and BD.
