2005 2500 Mileage Report (1151 on ODO)
When I traded my gas guzzling Chevrolet Silverado SS on a '05 2500 CTD I was hoping for better fuel mileage. Thought I might be able to squeeze 18 out of a 5.9 Cummins, but was worried as I see varied reports on fuel mileage. Since you never know under what exact conditions a mileage is being reported i.e. winter/summer fuel, winds, load, grade, gearing, acceleration profile, cruising speed, etc. I really had no idea how it would turn out. My break even was 16 MPG so I figured I would at least make that.
Put the first full take in today, 29.534 gallons. Started the tank at 550 on ODO, pulled up to the pump with 1151 on ODO. That's 20.349 MPG hand calculated, 20.7 showing on the DIC. My fuel costs have dropped from 15.6 cents per gallon to 11.9!
Really enjoying my '05 RAM!

Glad you are here.
At least you didn't say gas milage.
That is outstanding fuel mileage. After you get her broke in it might be even better, although you are at the upper limits for a 3/4 ton truck.

Down in the south everone pronounces it with a "g" at the end. Sorry for the slip of the finger.
Anyway, I'm going to put a fold-a-cover or advance cover on the bed, maybe the tone ring mod.
What about a box of some kind? Is there something that would give me a good gain in MPG? Maybe a Quad towing box?

Got mine tonight. I have 510 miles on the ODO and it got 17.5 on the trip home. First 100 miles were rough, couldn't get the overhead above 15 (yes I reset it before I started) but after that it began to rise and finally got to 17.7 when I got home. Mine is an 05 6 speed 4x4 2500. I think I have 3.73 gears, but not positive. Hope mine makes the jump to meet yours eventually, although I am not mad about the 17.5.

I just finished a 700 mile trip for the holidays and averaged 20.7 mpg up and over the Sierras. I used to get 300 miles per tankful with my '98 V10 ram 4 by4. I just got over 600 miles per tank on my latest trip.

When I first got my 05 I got around 16-17.
As it got more mileage and broke in the mileage improved.
I usually get 530 miles per tank and somewhere around 18-20 per.
This is with a 4 sspd and 3.73 gears. Im happy with it.
