19.5" Guys

Would you guys go with the 19.5" tire & wheels again for the money or would you buy the factory size tires? I have a auto trans dually with 373 gears & tow a 32' fifth wheel. It's either $1300 for 17" tires or $3500 for 19.5" tires & wheels.

From the truck camper forums the word is the 19.5's make the most difference with the vehicle handling a TC. This is over shocks, sway bars, air bags and/or overloads. The down side is expense, harsh ride empty, and they don't air down well for soft sand. Toyo and Nitto have an 285 load range E that is rated to 3750lbs. That is what I am most likely going with. Probably the Nitto as a friend has D rated 285-70-17 that have 16000 miles on them are are shot. He hauls nothing but a couple of sheets of plywood. He does have a lead foot though.

So far the 19.5 are doing great on my truck, You just have to get used to the ride, but I have about 4k miles on mine now, and love the way they handle with a heavy load on thr gooseneck.

I have 19.5's but I'm still deciding whether to put them on and leave them on or replace the rears which have 20k left in them. With the 255/70/19.5 Goodyear M/S on my speedometer is exactly correct which means they are the same size as the 235/80/17's that first came on the truck. They look about an inch bigger than the worn 265/70/17's I now have on. The tires are way louder than the Cooper s/t's were new. They seem to be balanced well. They do handle different than the 17's for sure. With 70psi in the 19.5's they seem smoother than the 55psi 17's which makes no sense. The tread pattern I have are rock magnets...no stone ejectors like most 17's. To me they look puny because of the oversize rim versus tire size...like a ricer with 40 series. If I was spending that kind of money I'd get 22.5's for sure. I have 270 bucks into 9 rims and tires so I could care less whether I use them or not on the truck ... they will end up on one of my trailers most likely. ks
