1/4 mile run
I am planning on doing 1 run on the 1/4 mile against my dad in his Chev. I generally run my truck avg (not to hard -not to easy). I have heard that the tranny does better if you WOT around 20+mph to allow the tranny fluid to fill the tc. My ? If you power brake, will this load the tc with fluid to help reduce the chances of tearing something up (coming off the line)? I have never ran at the track and am just looking to have a good time with the old man. (his idea of fun). His truck is stock 1500 V8 4x4. no mods. same with mine. Can the truck handle one good hard push? Any insight would help.
TIA

If he has a newer chevy then he will probably have you for lunch. [stock/stock].. You need to find someone with a pressure box to let you plug it in for the night, then you guys should have a VERY close race and you should slightly take him.
you aren't going to hurt your truck for these couple of runs, but you will need to build some boost so:
When the staging lights are triggered then wait for the first of the three yellow lights. When you see the top yellow lights come on then hold the brake and give it about 3/4 throttle to build boost and let off the brake on as soon as you see the last yellow light, "light" and floor it and sit back for the ride...
If you where closer I would let you borrow my pressure box, but I am sure someone close would do the same since it takes a whole 30 seconds to hook one up to your truck (2 plugs)...
I have raced my nieghbors 02 Chevy 1500 4X4 with a 5300 and we where basically dead even (I might have pulled about 2 foot on him the whole way) but I had a Edge EZ set on level 4 and he just had some dual exhaust with a set of flowmasters.
If you lose traction then try it in 4hi (you won't hurt anything) but make sure that after you pass thru the traps you switch back into 2WD so you don't scuff the tires when turning at the end of the track.
Have fun and don't make any bets unless you get a box plugged in....

T.Y.
Thanks Asher for the advise. My dad said he would take me. Oh well. Hope to have some fun without tearing something up. I will use your advise and update when the deed is done. We plan on running 2 Fridays from now.
Thanks again
