JD, He's looking for length not width. If I could get it certified for an additional 10,000# GCWR and GVRW then it would be worth it. ks

None Taken ...Here are a few reasons why "no thanks" is the dually answer.

1.) Dually on icy roads, sandy beaches, deep snow...not the best traction combo.

2.) Dually not any longer bed then single.

3.) This is cooler (had to toss that one in)

4.) I need a 10' bed for the camper anyway.

5.) Camper only weighs 2K wet, so weight not a driving factor.

6.) Posted pic was a photoshop mochup only...realy thing will look much better (to me anyway).

Well said LuvnaCumns. Totally weird & different. I can't wait to see six, 37 inch tires under that megacab. Try to have it completed with photos by tomorrow at lunch. Awesome.

Thanx.

Talking

I can't wait to see the finished thing either

Well...let's see - it started in January, and I got to drive the truck for a whole three days so far. Picked it up in Seattle (did the internet buy thing), drove and slept in it (not quite at the same time ) from Seattle to Lawton, OK. Shook Daniel's hand, met the rest of his crew...and flew back to Alaska!

There were typical project delays, no fault of the shop really. All the parts are now there and things are moving forward - or were. There is another truck in front of mine that they need to finish first. But that really isn't a problem...as Road Armor is also about 2 weeks behind on the bumpers...so it'll all come together at the right time...but yes, I can't wait either!!!

The shop sends pics as they progress...I'll be sure and post them as I get 'em.

why not just stuff another steering axle out front too.... then with all that room, bolt another inline 6 to make it 12 in a row ! its only money right?

I guess it's all in how you look at the wording of "6x6"...you may have 6 wheels, but only 2 axles...so not truly 6x6. My truck is destined to go places you most likely don't care to tread.

I honestly don't mean that in a negative manner...just that the weight displacement (and traction) of a dually vs. true 6-wheel (3-axle) drive is different. Deep sand and muddy roads (where my current rig...and soon-to-be new rig spend a lot of weekends) will swallow a dually whole.

Our camper is 10' long. Even with your "factory 6x6", it still wouldn't fit without hanging out the back-end...another reason for the conversion. My current rig is a crewcab with an 8' bed. With the tailgate down, the camper comes just to the end of the tailgate...not that much smaller than what the new truck will be.

Each to his/her own...the important thing here...is your "6x6" is still the right brand

To be perfectly honest - I don't know the answers (yet). Technically - more weight capacity for sure, but I'm not sure if the state of Alaska will see it that way - or even care actually.

The only reason I don't know the answers is it really wasn't a concern for me. It's already titled - so wouldn't matter as far as paper goes. It is a good question, and I'll definitely post the answers when I get them.

Sorry for the delay in replying - I have NO idea where the last few weeks went
