'06 CTD Muffler Delete
#32
To all concerned about the emissions testing I live in washington and all the test stations are run by 16 year-old kids that dont have a clue. They test for smoke density with a infared laser so mufflers will not matter my old truck a 99 with a edge chip truned on level one just to see and a straight pipe had 2% the limit was 30% i will say though i added ddp 140hp injectors and opps the truck smoked too much and i failed they do the test outside with the truck in neutral and its called a throttle snap test you will want to kill the kid when he wants you to hold your truck pinned for 3 seconds though. If you do fall all you have to do is find a buddy that lives outside the emissions zones and have your tags sent to his house u didnt hear that from me

Another one here that recently did the muffler delete from RPM Outlet. Also used the tapered band clamps, (torqued to 60 ft. lbs.). Most people don't notice the difference in sound, but I do. It's a little bit louder, but not much.
I thought that I could just undo the muffler clamps and the muffler would just slide off... boy was I wrong Just start by cutting slots in the muffler pipe. Getting the muffler off will test you resolve, but worth the effort. And don't forget to grind off those little locating "buttons" on the factory exhaust so your delete pipe can seal properly.

I have cut a few of those off to create an "off road" exhaust system. they dont come off easy. if you take the kitty off look at those big screens they put in there. I dont think it helps the truck any at all.

It doesn't hurt it much. It adds about 50 on the EGT and flows quite well compared to the stock muffler.

Yep, I did the muffler and cat delete on my 2006 CTD. I did the cat delete first, no difference in the sound at all, and no drone. Two weeks later I did the muffler delete, biggest noticeable change in sound. Not much louder but definite differnect in the tone, much lower...sounds good. Also, no additional drone noticed!

The drone from the removed cat is horrible on an '06!
