03 Waste Gate Mods?
#16
Last night I adjusted my boost elbow so my pressure won't go over 32 psi it was alright but my EGT's went up by 125-150 degrees. My EGTs were climbing when I back off at 1400 Degrees. I didn't like it so I decided to go the other way and I restricted the waste gate more now my boost will go up to 43 psi but my EGT's ware alot more managable.I will fine tune it tonight so my max boost will be at 38 psi. I Right now I still not getting any turbo bark and it feels real good but I don't want to push the limit to much.

I have not needed the Quadzilla boost fooler and my truck running 34psi. I'm with 2003Ram on this one. On 03-04 CTD the turbo loses efficiency after about 35-36psi. Your just pumping hot air after 35-36psi.

There were quite a few threads on this a couple years ago. I put on a quad race box and didn't see any significant change in boost. Stock or modified I can't push more than 24 psi without clamping the waste gate hose. Clamped I can hit 28. If I remember correctly the threads claimed the 03-04.5 turbo was outside it's efficiency map above around 30 psi. 04.5 and up were good for higher numbers in the 35-40 range.
I'm finally putting on a 2005 turbo (it's sitting in my closet now). I hope to get around 35 pounds of reasonably efficient boost out of it. I have to deal with the electronic actuator so the waste gate is functional which may force me to order an elbow. It also gets me the 4" turbo outlet.
I'm not sure what other changes cummins made, but I'm optimistic that it'll help the flow. I'll probably post the seat of the pants dyno results when I get it done!
Just noticed - guess I need to update my signature line...

You may be right about the efficiency after about 35-36psi but I'm just trying to understand if I'm just reading heat on my boost gage after 35# why are my EGT's lower at 40# of boost then 35#? Should my EGT's stay the same at 35# and 40# ?
