03 S.O Hp Mods

I am posting for a buddy of mine. I have an idea what he can do safely but figured I would ask the forum. He has an S.O with the 47re what can he safely add to his truck for Hp gains. I am thinking no more than 60hp or so. Like a ZXT or a 60hp off a Bullydog.

60 hp at the most.Add a valve body, and if the trans is good,he can go 100hp or a touch more safely, depending on if he tows or not,and how heavy.

Hopefully Dodgezilla sees this thread. He had an '03 SO that put out over 500hp.

Sure you can make it put out 500+hp but it sounds like his friend wants to just get a moderate HP increase. Dave, I'd say you are right that 60 hp or so is about all he's going to be able to add without having to worry about the trans. I ran mine with an EZ on level 4 or 5 with a stock trans for a long time before the converter started slipping. It only seemed to slip while towing around 10,000lb though. Of course he should start with an intake and exhaust and he should try to find a turbo elbow from a newer truck that is 4" on both ends. 03s have a 3.5" exhaust and it really needs to be opened up. I ran a Banks 4" downpipe on mine and just did away with the elbow altogether. Adding some 40hp injectors will help alot and give a boost in mileage too. I got a 1 mpg increase with my Formula1 Flux1 40hp injectors.
Any of the boxes out there will work for him and if he wants the trans to last he should not go higher than halfway too often. I eventually put a converter and valvebody in mine and ran a Quad Race/VA C3.2 stack with it and had no problems with the trans. I guess the real question Dave is "Where does he want the truck to be powerwise when he's done?" There's lots more you can do to the truck for power. Here's what I was running when I made 500hp on my SO:

Fully built DTT trans w/ single disc Converter
FASS 95gph fuel pump
Formula1 40hp injectors
HTB2 62/12 turbo
TST/EZ Stack TST on 7/2 and EZ on Level 3
BHAF w/ custom Torque tube
Homemade full 4" exhaust w/ Banks 4" downpipe and Magnaflow muffler
Fuel/Trans/Pyro, and Boost guages

There are many guys here and on other sites making a lot more power than my measly 500hp too. It all depends on what you want to do. My combo kept low egts and gave me 17city/22hwy mpg. Hopefully my 07 will be there soon...

The EZ alone on level 4 gave me 299hp/554tq at the wheels..
The Quad Race/VA stack gave me 341hp/714tq at the wheels but it felt much stronger than that. That was without injectors and turbo too..

He has a MBRP 4in exhaust already. He needs an airbox. He doesn't want tons of power since he only plows with the truck. He just can't stand that is feels like its winding out at 70mph and has no more power. I think he may have 235hp truck with 4.10's

I also have a 235hp '03 and wouldn't mind a little more but the dealer has warrened me that mods will put my 100k warranty in the trash. I fear the trans would follow. I think I have the 48re trans.

Most of these fueling boxes can be installed and removed in a matter of minutes and the power increase is incredible, even on the most mild box. I'd have them look into a Quad Tow Box. Very inexpensive and the mileage will probably go up too. The dealer does not need to know that you are running a box. Pull it out before any trip to the dealership and admit to nothing......

I did an AFE stage 1, then gauges, Some difference but not much!

I did the EZ and I was like depressed, but this was the 4 setting module.

So, I did a motoblue 4" exhaust from the turbo back and the truck was completely different.

I drove it for 100k miles like that no engine transmission trouble. Edge was great with the customer service because my EZ died twice.

Was told that the computer on the truck would store a code that a box was added and more HP than stock has been generated even after it was removed. Would they look for codes and anything else? YES.

Usually they cannot tell you had anything on your truck by way of computer, but they will try to trick you into telling on yourself. That happened on my 02 and I just learned my lesson and went to another dealer.

If you have a catastrophic failure then yes the computer, deep down inside, will probably store some info that shows high boost or high fuel pressure or something of that nature. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have had a fueling box on the truck though but that will make them look in that direction. They will really have to dig deep to find this info though and they aren't going to go through the hassle unless something really bad has happened to the truck. I agree with Panama. Just don't tell!!
