0148 code

0148 code
I did a search and did a lot of reading, just was wondering if there was any new info.
I have had an XZT for about a year and how towed with it and since day one I have had a 0193 code which won't go away even unhooked the batteries.
I recently got a Quad race and have been playing with it for about a month not towing with no codes thrown.
This weekend I towed the toyhauler and on the way out with Commander on 1 no codes no problems. On the way back today I put it on 2 and never mashed the throttle, never got over 1220 egt's, and towed up 2 long steep hills.
When I got almost home I noticed the cel on and when I got home I now have the 0148.
Some say its normal with towing with the race box and others say its the FCA. Seems like it cranks alot more to start for a couple of months when its cold or warmed up, and about 5,000 miles on the fuel filter. I can smell diesel when I walk by the front of the truck.
Any input and can someone tell me where and what the FCA is? Thanks.

I had that code last week alot. It happened when on my way home from getting Floor-It pump. I called John and he sent me a new FCA as we thought that was the problem but before I got new FCA I changed the fuel filter just to do it when it had only been on for 2000 miles. I cleared codes and they have not thrown again. In short terms just try changing the filter its alot cheaper to do that first.

You need a lift pump your sucking pressure from your lift pump to your cp3 down to a low level and setting the code more then likely, especially if your making a long pass or going up a step grade towing with heavier then normal fueling. The stock lift pump is too weak, get an aftermarket unit.

The 0148 code means that there is a difference between ECM demanded rail pressure and actual rail pressure, unless you have a DRBIII or similar tool like the Autoenginuity you will not be able to tell if the actual pressure is too hi or too low. I would start trouble shooting from the fuel tank forward, if you have a fuel pressure gauge then you have eliminated all factors behind the cp3. there may be a problem with the FCA, (very likely if you have a modded FCA or modded cp3). From there the high pressure fuel lines may be leaking, not too likely and easy to diagnose because you can see them. This leads to the injectors which could be leaking internally. I would first start with removing all boxes and setting the ECM back to stock programming. give me a holler if you have any questions, I recently worked through this same code and found my FCA to be bad. Everything is stock except for the box but I need to take off the box and take it in to dealer to check some other stuff. I have the hunt shift between 1st and 2nd and now my volt meter is under 14v when I first start it up the goes up past the 14v where is used to be all the time. Maybe a battery is bad?
Where can I find a list of TSB for an 05?

You'll find this code pop up with the Quad. It is a fuel delivery error. I have gotten code with the Quad a few times. The Quad adds pressure and sometimes the request for RP that the Quad is telling the ECM is so far from what the actual amount that the ECM should supply and goes out of the ECM's peramerters. Like the Quad says 26K and the ECM only need 17k. I would throw it under light load traveling pretty fast up hill at around 2,000 RPM's, which sounds similar tp you.
Another reason is getting on it a lot and draining the rail can cause it. In my case the rail was fine.
I would keep clearing it for a little while adn not worry about it. Mine seems to have gone for several months.

Got 0148 again last night with box on 1 and pulling an empty 14' single axle trailer up a long hill from a stop.
Now when I am driving at a constant speed like 45 or cc on 70 mph, when I turn the box to 0 I can feel the truck slow down and then when I hit 1 again I can feel it speed up, never done this before that I can remember. Whats up with that?
