What I learned about the new Ram HDs
I was at the local car lots checking out the new stock, and saw something I haven't seen before (besides the high sticker prices).
Used to be that if you got a Dodge Ram 3500 SRW as opposed to a 2500, the only difference was that there were additional "overload" leaf springs as part of the rear spring pack. That is no longer the case with the 2010s. Now, the 3500 SRW get 3 (thicker) leafs in the rear, plus the thick, non curved lower leaf. No more overload springs and accompanying perches on the frame. The 2500s get 4 (thinner) leafs plus the bottom flat leaf.
The 3500 duallies get the 4 thinner leafs, plus the 2 free hanging overloads, and the flat thick bottom leaf like my 2007 3500 SRW has - the rear spring packs look identical from my truck to the 2010 DRW Crew and Mega. Megacab or crew cab doesn't matter; the 2 additional overload springs are 3500 DRW only now.
I would imagine this would also mean that something I say all the time - that the 3500 SRW and 2500 have the same ride quality may also need to be revisited. The 3500 SRW may indeed ride a touch stiffer now.

Dodge also increased the front bolt size for the leafs. All of this was done to increase tow ratings and like you said, didn't do much to help the stiff ride.

So Dodge now has less suspension on their trucks? Great, the one thing that I really needed was an increase in payload and GVWR. These trucks, in my opinion, had plenty of pulling power since 2000. But now the've lightened them up! I'm not happy at-all with these new diesels available. All they preach is more power. No real mention of longevity, dependability, serviceability ect. I think that the truck in my signature will be my last diesel. I look forward to seeing the new GM's this summer, when their new beefier truck hits the dealerships. I like the direction their taking!

Sorry I wasn't specific on my last post. I won't be buying another diesel truck! With the $7-9000 premium, the fuel that is $.40 a gallon more, the higher insurance premiums, higher maintenance costs, the faster wear rate of the front end components ect. I ment that I like the new GM gas engines coming out and the one currently available. E-85 compliant, VVT with lower RPM peak torque values, and soon-direct fuel injection! I need a truck with huge payload, not an extreme pulling machine. As of now, that leaves out Dodge. And if you look in my signature, you'll realize that Dodge doesn't even make a gas version of my truck! But, I won't be buying a new one until 2014-to special order a 2015. Alot can happen in those years ahead!
