Turbo making a funny noise
I have a 2007.5 6.7L Mega Cab 4X4. On the way home from a trip the other day, the turbo starting making a weird noise when the exhaust brake engages. It sounds sort of like metal on metal, almost like the turbo is being starved of oil. It's a loud shrieking sort of noise. At first it only did it when decelerating with the exhaust brake on, now it does it when accelerating quickly. But it doesn't do it all the time, only intermittenly. By the way, I checked the oil level and it's good, and the oil was changed about 2K miles ago. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
Dave

A 6.7 should be under factory warranty. Use it. That's what its for.
If it is a turbo failing, stop using it, cold very well damage more than just the turbo.

Pull boot to the turbo and take a look at wall around fins , I think you will see rubbing . Any marks at all turbo is junk . Do not run it like this have it towed in , you are putting metal through your engine . Check your oil , if level if high , you lost and injector which took out your turbo , possible cause . It will only take a few minutes to check , remove the two hose clamps , one on the air filter the other at the turbo , unplug sensor and remove . Check for play in turbo shaft , if any , park and have towed . you do not want all the pieces going through your engine .

THis is when you are making the most boost. If it is a leak in the exhaust manifold you will have more drive pressure at full boost and that is when you will hear it. If it is a bad turbo it could be pulling the cartridge forward under full load and hitting the housing. Either way. Have it checked out.
