Soot with J35 recall
#3
I've had at least two techs at different dealerships tell me that SOME soot is normal. The most recent was a few days ago when I was getting my turbo cleaned at a dealer in Tucson. I wouldn't say my tailpipe is heavily sooted, but there is a very light coat and has been for as long as I can remember.
I'm not particularly worried about it. The truck regens normally and there is no visible smoke coming out if the exhaust. I guess it could be said that the DPF traps most of the soot but a small amount gets through over time.
(BTW, I had the J35 recall performed last summer but I was having some soot in the tailpipe before that. I believe the J35 recall adds more regens, which may account for the extra soot. Just my opinion.)

In july I had a turbo replaced and they flashed it. Now it runs like a pud. Just got back from another dealer for another turbo(2k since july, and I've had it to a dealer inbetween that didn't do a thing. ) still making a huge whining noise. and I can leave a good trail of smoke! Goes back on Wednesday. By the way. Love the truck. The turbo is due to the replacement being faulty. Anyone in minneapolis drive a 08 6.7 I can go for a ride in? Just to verify new drivability?
