Rear Overload Spring question

I have a 2011 Laramie that I use occasionally to haul heavy loads in the bed, about 3800lbs. Needless to say, the rear drops significantly but the axle does not bottom out on the rubber snubbers on the frame. My 2001 Ram 2500 had a "Camper Special" package which included an overload leaf which contacted rubber snubbers on the frame when a heavy load was put on the bed. Does anyone know if a factory overload set from an '01 can be installed on a 2011?

You can correct me if I'm wrong but don't the 2011 Dodge trucks use a coil rear suspension, not a leaf design?

Not to hijack your thread but you may want to consider using air bags as an option. The kit that we offer is 60818 for your truck. Using air would allow you add the support you need, when you need it. It most likely would be about the same price as an add a leaf; if you visit our retailers you will find the average price is around $90 dollars.

An added benefit of air is you can also fine tune how much support you need simply by adding or subtracting air. With an additional air management kit this adjustment can be done from inside the cab while on the road.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of the options you have. If I can help in any way, please let me know.

The 2500 has leafs...I believe the 1500 has coils. I am aware of the air bag option but the extra overload leaf on my other truck was nice. Didn't have to add or remove air depending on load, and it was progressive in nature meaning the empty ride remained softer. The spring didn't come into play until a load was put on the truck. Sort of a maintenance free, always there when you need it deal. Thanks for the option though....

I installed Hellwig's 61901 Load Pro series on my truck to handle the weight of my fifth wheel. They are a progressive system, fully adjustable and were easy to install, they are bolted on. This number (61901), according to Hellwig's website (hellwigproducts.com) will also fit your truck. The best price I found was on Amazon.com, about $245.00 delivered.
Good luck John

My apologies I didn't notice that it was a 2500 in your signature.

Spoon40,

Thanks for the tip. I was looking at "Super Springs" at almost twice that price.

I have replaced the rubber pads on the overloads. They are bigger and will engage the overloads much earlier, limiting the sagging. I have noticed a positive change.
