Pre turbo EGT probe installation location on 6.7l CTD?

Hello everyone,
Could someone here please assist me with the placement/location of an egt probe pre-turbo on a 2007.5 6.7l CTD. Also what are the max-safe egt temps. pre-turbo on the 6.7l CTD. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I also have a EGT gauge on order and I was looking under the hood yesterday and it seems there is lot of junk to remove for the installation and we might need the saws all. I'm far from being an expert and could you let me know how you make out. Thanks

Should be the same as on a 5.9L . I would consider using a hole saw to remove part of the heat shield to be able to drill for it. Other than that installation should be exactly the same. Take it slow with the hole saw and it should be a very smooth looking installation. Might want to take the heat shield off to verify that there is nothing behind it and then put the heat shield on a piece of wood for a backer when drilling with the hole saw.

Guys, if you contact product support at Quadzilla, they can email you photos of where they installed the pyro on their 6.7. They emailed them to me so I could give them to the installer to use as a guide. I would send them to you, but this website has a 500K file size limitation and these jpeg photos are all like 2 to 3 meg each.

Photo bucket. It's free and you can load the pics there then copy and paste the web site for us to view-

If you have the 5.9 install instructions for the Commander, it will refer to making connections to the MAP and ETC sensors, which are in different locations on the 6.7. So the pictures show you A) Where these sensors are located on the 6.7 and B) Which wire you put the tap on to for each sensor. Hooking to the MAP sensor gives you your boost reading and the ETC gives you engine coolant temp. All you need to do then is drill the hole for the pyro and install the temp sensor into the transmission and you are done. I'll see if I can find the photos of the pyro location on the 6.7 manifold and post those too.

Thanks again MtnTrucker you've been a great help. So this is a pre-turbo probe install. Do you or anyone here know what are the recommended safe egt limits pre-turbo on the 6.7l. I have noticed their is so much debate about the egt limits on the 5.9 forums.

Thanks. Do you have to remove the coolant & oil line to the turbo to make room for drilling and taping ?

Don't know about removing lines and such, this was one of those things that I prefer to pay the local diesel shop 50 bucks to perform up front versus paying 500 bucks to have someone fix it after I screw it up.

I have always heard that 1200-1250 is maximum safe temp pre-turbo, and even then you don't want to stay at those temps for an extended time, however I am not an expert.

Now, stand by and we can let the experts all weigh in on what temp is best.

Anyone got any tips or tricks for drilling and tapping the 6.7 for the EGT thermocouple? I've got my gauge, just wanting some real world experience before I break out the drill.
