PCM to ECM issue

My 2007.5 with 108K mileage was rolling down the road 2 weeks ago at 45mph. Out of the blue the dashboard lights gave a Fourth of July look and the motor died. Coasted in to a parking lot. Restarting the motor was a no-go. Towed to my local Dodge dealer. Mechanic said the PCM/TCM was dead. Took them a while to locate a replacement.

After locating and having it shipped, mechanic installed the PCM. Is currently stalled in programming the PCM. He says that the Startech(?) unit is not able to get the part number from the ECM. Says diagnostics show the ECM functional but not able to communicate with the PCM and has been confirmed by Chrysler tech help. Says a replacement ECM is required.

After putting $800 in for the PCM and now wanting another $1600 for the ECM, I am looking for some input as to the correctness of their repair process. And does it sound reasonable that the PCM/TCM and ECM failed at the same time??

Very possible that something caused both to go haywire. They work in tandem. However, the ECM should be covered by the 5 yr 100k mile warranty. With the milage being that close to 100k, Id see if they could work with you.

ECM wont be cheap.
