Oil Leak At Front Of Engine, No One Can Fix..
My 07.5 3500 RAM with 7500 miles on the clock has been to different dealers at least 3 times to repair an oil leak at the bottom front of the engine. The leak has been there virtually since the truck was new. Every dealer I've taken it to hasn't seen this problem before. It was "repaired" twice at the original dealer in Lewiston, ID and once by the dealer in Baraboo, WI. The last dealer said with confidence that "the leak is finally fixed". Now, here in NC the leak is as bad as ever. From what I understand it's coming from the timing chain cover, NOT the front seal. Have any of you ever heard of an oil leak that couldn't be fixed? I love the truck and don't wish to pursue the lemon law if I don't have to. It seems to me that there must be a tech out there somewhere who knows what he's doing?
BTW, I have an appointment for this Mon. at the dealership in Hickory, NC. Let's see if they can get it right!

This may seem over simple but how about he plastic plug for the timing cover being the source of the leak? On my 04.5 the tech that replaced the CP-3 damaged it and I leaked oil from Michigan to Florida till I found someone that had the part and could replace it. Simple operation to do. Just guessing here but another place to look.

Document the number of times you have had the truck in the shop. Three times for the same problem with no fix and it may qualify as a lemon, and they will owe you a new truck. Get a lawer, it will not cost you anything, and get a new truck.

All oil leaks are repairable. They just need to figure out why and where the problem is. Finding a quality tech these days can be a challenge so when you find him treat him well. Stay on it, you will get the issue corrected.

The leak is not awfully bad. I really haven't had to add any oil. I think the leakage is occuring while the vehicle is parked but I'm not sure. The leak was big enough to put spots on my mother's driveway and get her teed off. I park the truck on her grass now.
All in all, the truck is perfectly driveable and other than the leak operates flawlessly. I'd really NOT prefer to have them give me another truck and as another respondent stated here, an oil leak should't be that hard to fix. I'm not a mechanic but I have two thoughts about the matter:
1. The previous mechanics really didn't do anything and are milking DC for he money to be paid them for warranty work.
2. The crankshaft may not be smooth where it goes through the oil seal and is therefore wearing it out OR the seal isn't in perfect alignment with the shaft....just theorizing here, unless someone has a better answer.
