New 2010 3500 4x4 Mileage

I friend of mine just bought a new 2010 3500 4x4. It has been getting about 11 MPG, I am guessing mostly around town. Is this what you folks have been seeing? I am sure it will do better on the road and broken it.
They traded a Chevy 2500 DM that they liked pretty well, but love the new leather imterior and performance of the new Dodge. I am guessing that they drive with a heavy foot as well. It is the Quad/4 door, not the Mega.
They were amazed at the mileage that I get(2002 3500), even with 4.10 gears. I get around 15 at 70, 20 or so at 55 or 60. 11 towing 14k 12' Fiver.
They can afford the fuel the fuel, so it is not a big deal to them. It would be to most of us, I think!

Guess time will tell if they will ever improve, but while not as bad big block gassers, that still about a 25% reduction of older models. Are you really helping the enviroment using 25% more fuel?

My 6.7 when I got it last summer was getting about 12 to 13 in town. With the egr plugged in, you will get that poor of fuel economy. Now that the deletes are done, I'm about 15 to 17 in town empty. 19 to 20 empty on the highway and about 12 towing.

I'm still undecided on the deletes...would I like more economy, yes...is 2mpg worth it to lose my warranty...I don't know yet.

Better towing mileage would be great...towing, I get about 10mpg...I'd like to see 12-13mpg like my old 380RWHP 12v

With our truck, the only warranty I had left was on the motor. Things were going well for the year after we bought it and a month ago I pulled the trigger and did the deletes. No more making oil, no more random 45 minute drives on the highway in the middle of my work day, better fuel economy and a puff of black every time she starts. Impressive.

I completely understand being nervous about doing the deletes though.

I have about 8K miles now and was getting around 12 to 13 in town and 16 to 17 hwy, 9 towing. After the smarty and deletes, I'm getting 19 to 20 hwy and 11 towing. Don't drive much around town since so I don't know that one yet. I think it might be breaking in a bit now too since I've towed 80% of its miles.

I'd be all over Blakes advice when available.
