Mega Cab One Piece Drive Shaft Help

Hi Guys -

I have a 2006 Mega Cab 1500 4x4 auto transmission. I have been doing a lot of research on replacing the 2 piece drive shaft with the one piece aluminium and went ahead and ordered part #52123161AB.

I had my local mechanic install the shaft today and he is telling me that only 1.5 inches is going on the output shaft in the transfer case.

Have any of you done the 2 piece to 1 piece conversion? Is the 1.5 inches on the output shaft okay? My local guy does not think so, but I researched and researched this and thought I had the correct part number! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it was mine, I definitely wouldn't run it with only 1.5 inches on the tranfer case. I haven't measured mine (it's not the one-piece), but I would say the output shaft goes 5 or 6 inches into the drive shaft.

I think the 1500 came with a lighter duty Transfer Case that would be shorter.

I would think upon acceleration, what with the Pinion wrap etc the drive shaft would fall right off the output shaft.

Why not take it to a driveline shop and have it extended to the proper length then rebalanced?
