Looks like unplugging the EGR isn't enough
I've had my EGR unplugged now for almost a year, just after they replaced the turbo. I wish I could remember how many miles it has been this way. The truck now has almost 15,000 miles on it, and I think the EGR has been unplugged for about half of that.
I took the truck in today to allow them to hunt down a mystery oil leak (they put die in the oil last visit), and to investigate why I recently got the red lightning bolt on the cluster, as well as the computer resetting everytime the truck is started.
Well, they found that the driver's side battery had failed a load test, so they are replacing both batteries, and believe that is why the computer keeps resetting.
The lightning bolt on the display was because of a throttle position sensor issue, and when they pulled the EGR valve off to inspect, they found a lot of soot build up. The tech decided to clean the turbo because of this, and then found that the cleaning port plug had broken off and went into the turbo at some point. So, now they are replacing the turbo too.
So, it would seem that simply unplugging the EGR is not sufficient enough of a solution. Times like this make me very glad I still have some warranty left, make me regret not having bought a longer warranty, and make me wonder if I'll be able to keep this truck for the long future I had hoped.

Well:
I just had the mil light come on. The dreaded p2262 code. Truck is running fine. I had two small huffs or coughs as the exhaust brake was winding down Saturday then the light came on.
Dealer does not seem to be worried but I am. I run this thing hard and I always use the exhaust brake.
I had just got back from a trip and headed to the golf course on Saturday then the light came on.

Its gonna take some time and trial to get this stuff right. Dealing with this filter stuff for a non-commercial application is just not as simple as scaling down an OTR setup for much larger engines.
