How long until oil is black?

Had the dealer change my oil yesterday, they changed the oil, washed it, and then I drove it across the road and checked the oil level, filter, drain plug, etc like I do every time. The oil was black or almost black just like the last change 5K miles back, is that right? I know there is a new filter on and the drain plug was wiped off, but should the oil be black that soon?????

my oil is black as soon as it hits the oil pan. i even flushed it with some leftover delo400 when i switched to amsoil. dont worry. the color is not an indication of the life of the oil.

Mine gets a little darker but not black right away, doesnt start truning dark for a 1000 miles or so. I have never seen my oil black black even after 10k or so miles, just a really dark brown. After every oil change I take a good look at the old oil for any wierd signs and in the sun light it looks like a dark brown. I change ever 10 to 15k miles every fourth oil change I have a sample done they allwas say I can get more miles out of the oil.

Only the 04.5 on up trucks turn the oil black right away. Supposedly it is due to the 3rd injection event. It doesn't hurt the oil or the truck it just takes getting used to.
