High oil level.

I had my truck in for a oil change today and was quizing the diesel tech about the high oil level, he said it was the first he heard of it, well when my truck was almost done I walked out into the bay to talk to him, (no such thing as a oil change guy at this dealership and oil changes are to be done by a mechanic because of the saftey checks preformed during the service)
But anyway he had 3- 1 gallon or 3.785L = to (11.35L) jugs empty on his bench and i asked him if that is what he put in my truck and he said yes I pulled the stick and it was at the 3/4 mark on the safe section It was obvious he didn't run the truck for very long because the oil was pretty clean, or the oil didn't make it all the way to the pan yet, and didn't start it yet.

20 min ago I pulled the stick and now it's reading overfull to the end of the flat spot on the plastic. level been like that since new .I'm now convinced that the dip sticks are too long because I only put 15 km on the truck since the oil change, has anybody compared the length of the dipsticks to a 5.9L yet? and i wonder if the tube is routed the same. Has any of the 08 owners noticed the high oil level as well as the 07.5 owners?

I know it's common for a new engine to put a little fuel into the oil until the rings seat, so if I send out a oil sample it will probable show a little higher than normal fuel content.

That really sucks... I don't think the dipstick is the deal from your description, but this would be an easy and great fix if so. If fuel was getting into the oil, especially in the amount of time described, to the extent described then I'd think that it would just continue to keep filling up fast. Oil analysis is a great idea. I would try to check that sucker often and try to document any increase in level over a given time period.

Mine is very new and now I'm gonna be checking it to see about the level. Yours isn't the first I've heard of with such a potential issue.

Mine has the same problem. I did an oil analysis at 3500 miles which indicated excess fuel in oil (5.5%). Dealer said not a problem, was caused by sitting on lot and short demo/lot moves. Fine, changed the oil and will sample again, but I'm not holding my breath. New oil reads overfull as well.

Pretty sure it's the stick. After oil change with the "right" amount of oil replaced, as per the manual, the oil level is to the top of the level tag. Way over the full mark. Never gets any higher/lower throughout the entire 10k mile interval that I use for changing the oil, so I'm not worried about fuel in the oil. If fuel was leaking into the crankcase, the oil level would continue to increase but it doesn't. The dipstick on the 6.7l is different from the one on the 5.9l. I think I did read somewhere, way back, that there might be a problem with the dipstick - still waiting for word on that one.

Man I feel your pain . I have put almost 6k miles on my 07.5 mega 2500 4x4, and have had several codes and a new turbo installed. I believe they have fixed it this time. Now I have this high oil level issue also,I believe the truck has the wrong dip stick in it. Just to cover myself I had the dealer change the oil,I ran the truck home and let the truck sit for about an hour and the oil is above the plastic on the dip stick again. I took the truck in with this issue and they told me that I probably didnt leave the drain plug out long enough = 30 MINUTES PER OWNERS MANUAL.SO I will call them tomorow since they are the ones that changed it this time. I will keep you posted .

Oil level not changing is great info; makes sense about the fuel in oil issue then being a non-issue or one time only thing (sitting on the dealer lot) per your explanation. Even without the potential "correct reading" dipstick the level not changing is good news. It'll be interesting if someone documents a recurring fuel in oild problem through analysis.

Mine has been like that pretty much since it was new, it now has over 82,000 miles on it. The oil has been analyzed and has no problems. The level stays the same between oil changes so I quit worrying about it. I consider it a non issue as long as the oil level stays the same.

Mine reads high on the stick also. I change my own oil and it has always read high since I bought it. I'm not worried about it, seems like it's the norm for these 6.7's
