Exhaust Catalyst Full - Bad Fuel

So, I take the wife's truck to the dealer with a CEL and Catalyst full on overhead. Vehicle is still with warantee. They claim that bad fuel plugged the fuel filter which in turn prevented the vehicle from regenerating. At the time of the CEL my wife was in the middle of a trip towing a fairly heavy trailer. Seems like the DPF would be hot enough to do a passive regen under the circumstances.

Anyway, does it seem likely that a partially plugged filter would cause a plugged DPF? Dealer wants to replace at our expense as Dodge says the problem was caused by a partly clogged filter. I'm going to delete so no need to replace the DPF I tell the dealer, but they still have a $280.00 bill for diagnostic labor and to replace the filter. Are they blowing smoke?

Are they saying there was not enough "bad" fuel to make the truck drive poor, yet at the same time it caused the emmisions system failure? Sounds like they're full of it to me. Partly clogged filter? Where is their validation of that being true even?

Wow, sounds like BS to me. Did they show you the filter? Insurance is an option if it really is bad fuel.

Ask for the data to back it up. Otherwise it is BS, I would tell them that too....

This BS is the reason I don't have a new truck right now. I would have bought one when the injectors started going south on my truck.

T210DRVR,

I see your in S Oregon, I'm guessing that your at a Lithia dealership? If I'm correct then run away fast they are crooks, find a new Dodge dealer ASAP.
