Exhaust brake comes on with switch off.
Has anyone had similar problems? I recently had the turbo replaced due to the low boost error code and check engine light coming on (after 5 trips to the dealer). A day later after the turbo replacement I drove the truck up to Colorado and after I got there the exhaust brake would come on its own with the switch turned off which I thaught might have something to due with low ambient air temperature. The truck also developed a bad whining noise when you let off the throttle and let it coast similar to a transmission pump whining. Since I have returned to Texas the exhaust brake hasn't come on its own but the whining noise is still there especially in the mornings (not near as bad in the evenings). The check engine light has also come on 3 times since the turbo replacement and shows the P2000 code.

We drove 15 hours stopping only for fuel and after the last stop the brake started coming on and the whining noise started. The temperature ranged between 22 and 45 degrees. I'm waiting for a good cold front to come in so I can go to a dealer and try a new one to see if it does the same thing.

Since it was only cooled down during refueling, I don't think it would be related to a cold start / faster warm up feature with the variable turbo. I know my 2003 makes the famous Hoot Owl sounds in the cold but I don't know if that is what you are describing.

"passive regen" search around here a bit & you'll find the info. you need, but that's what causes the exhaust brake to come on on its own, the whining noise I'm not too sure about???? good luck! Dusty
