Can't decide between 6 speed manual or auto for 07 w 5.9

To start I am new to this forum and with out everyone slamming me I am an F-150 auto. I am going to upgrade to 3/4 ton and don't trust ford 6 or 6.4. I tow a 6000lb tractor w/trailer and 7000lb tt. My concern is with these weights my 150 would never consider going into OD and I would like to have better towing mpg as well as unloaded mpg. I am considering 07 2500 4x4 w/ 5.9 3.73 ls just can't make up my mind on auto or standard. By the way dealer wants 42000-43000 for either before we talk price what should I end up paying without feeling like I got the high hard one

If you are towing a lot, manual. The auto is convenient but if I were towing all the time I'd opt for the 6 speed manual.

if you are even considering a 6spd DON'T get an auto....by the way alot of guys on here (including me) payed less than 34k out the door....or 10 to 12k less than the MSRP...shop around you should find be able to find a killer deal on the 5.9's now that the 6.7's r out!!!!

Everybody has opinions. Mine is get whatever you want. If you like to shift yourself...get a manual. If you prefer autos, get the 48RE. It will shift and pull your trailers fine.

I'm happy with the Auto. Get what makes you happy. I've had no problem towing dozers, backhoes, lifts or skid steers.

Remember you have a 06' redeye, 8-10k off would be a good deal on an 07'

explodingdeer, for the wieghts that you are towing the auto would be fine and it will do it in overdrive (especialy if you get the auto with 4:10's)
I went with the 6 speed on my new truck over the auto since I tow heavy when I tow, but I have to admit I miss being able to sip my morning brew while driving .

I drove both yesterday... my current truck is a 6sp, and my last one was a 5sp... I am no longer considering a new 6sp. I didn't like the way it shifted, and the automatic was 10 times better than my 1st gen and 2nd gen autos were!!!!

and an automatic will haul 7klbs no problem

What?? You can't drive, shift, smoke a cig, sip a coffee, eat a sandwich, and talk to mngt on the hands free all at the same time.

Been towing 12-14000lb daily around town for 2 yrs. No problems and no slip.Bought used at 72000km and now have160000. I use to be all manual but I will buy another auto, especially if it's a new 6sp.

Thanks for the useful info. I plan on go driving a few early next week and hopefully buy within the next month. Will fuel economy by much different between the 4sp auto and 6 speed manual? By the way I am leaning toward 6 speed as everyone I know who owns a dodge has a 5 or 6 speed and they swear by them.
