Is there anyone out there that works in the petroleum industry or for any of the major refineries? I would REALLY like to hear from you regarding ULSD fuel to answer some questions.

I constantly see people on these forums saying they have trouble finding ULSD where they live. Questions:

1-I was under the impression that ALL diesel fuel sold in the US after 1/1/07 had to be ULSD. Is LSD even still made & distributed in the US?

2-If so, what is it used for?

3-Is it possible that all stations are actually selling ULSD but they haven't put the decals on the pumps?

4-Honestly, at least in Colorado where I live, I have TRIED to find stations selling LSD and I can't find one any where.

1. As Far As Our Company, Buckeye Pipeline, I Work In Pa, We Ship High Sulfur Diesel, Low Sulfur Diesel, And Ultral Low Sulfur Diesel. The Lsd And Hsf Are Bothe Dyed Red...
2. The Uses Of Lsd And Hsf Are Mainly Used As Home Heating Oil, Offroad Diesel, Sometimes It Is Used In Plants Or Factories To Power Their Equipment And Machinery, And It Can Also Go To The Railroad For Use In The Trains.
3. Im Not Sure About That One.


The Main Difference From Hsf-lsd-ulsd Is The Sulfur Content...high Sulfur Fuel Is Anything Above 500 Parts Per Million, Lsd Is Anything Below 500 Ppm, And Ulsd Is Fule That must Be Under 15 Ppm.....if You Have Any Other Questions Just Let Me Know I May Know The Answer But If Not I Can Try My Best To Get You The Correct Answers I Am No Expert By Anymeans......

 

Only 80% of the stations must sell ULSD in the US with 100% by 2010, though I believe in California it is 100%. In Canada it is 100% as well. See,
