? about cool down time.
Well since I've been home a bit, I've noticed that the UPS drivers, when making deliveries, just shut the truck down at each stop. Sometimes they shut down 3 - 4 times just on my street alone. No cool down and then start up and drive off right away, no warmup. I know that most of these trucks are running 5.9's but still how hard can that be on the powerplant?? And we all are so worried about warming up and cooling down etc. Also agree that they do not own the trucks so it's no skin off them if the thing breaks, but still if warmup & shutdown are sooo important you'd think UPS would want their drivers using the trucks as efficiently as possible. Wonder how they'll drive the 6.7L when they start getting them?? If their driving habits will need to change you'd think UPS would start the training now for the differences with the 6.7L's.

UPS will not change until the bean counts say so. The bean counters look at all angles to see how to do the job the cheapest way. If they felt it cost them more by money by shutting off the truck at every stop they would have all there trucks set up on timers to shut it off for them at a set time after the key is turned off. You can bet diesel fuel cost them more from idling all day then the cost of replacing a starter once in a while.

UPS just changed all their routes so the drivers make mostly right hand turns....
This will save them millions in fuel with "right turn on red' laws.......
Yup, if leaving the trucks running saved a nickel, they would do it.....And you can bet they have done the math!

I work for canada's largest courier company and it has nothing to do with fuel, it's all about security. We do the exact same thing. 5 day suspension for unlocked truck and dissmisal for a truck running unatended.
