6.7L MPG's Anyone have more than 30k miles
#33
I have a 07 with the 6.7 3500 TWD SRW 6-speed manual. It has 5000 miles and I'm getting 17 in town and 20 on the open highway. Just made a quick 700 mile trip @ 70 to 75 mph. I got 21.7 mpg. Keep in mind that this is a two wheel drive. I have the tail gate spoiler from a 1500 but everthing else is stock.

If you have a 5.9, keep it. If I could turn back time I wouldn't have bought the new one. Lost 4 mpg towing and 6 mpg empty to work compared to my 03and it could pull anything I hooked to it. I have 11k on mine and the milage isn't getting any better. Actually I think its worse. I already told a friend of mine I will give him a good deal on it.

Around 27k miles I noticed that my 6.7l started to get better mileage, just like my 04.5. When the 04.5 hit 50K, fuel mileage started to get really good. ex. I almost got 22 m.p.g. (empty) over 650 miles @ a cruise controlled 75 m.p.h. Hand calced it came out to just over 21.5 m.p.g. Not bad?? Towing anything up to 18k lbs. the 04.5 would get between 12 & 14 m.p.g. @ 75 m.p.h.
I'm expecting to get a "little" less with this truck due to the EGR but I'm hoping the different gearing in the trans will make up some for what ever the EGR takes away. @ 75 m.p.h. I'm cruising right around 2k r.p.m.'s. The 04.5 would cruise @ just over 2,200 r.p.m.'s. Plus, I travel the same route alot, so where the 04.5 would downshift out of OD on some of the hills on I80, the 6.7l sails right over. Another difference I have noticed, when the 04.5 came off OD it would take forever or have to almost hit the crest to upshift back into OD. When, and it doesn't happen that often, the 6.7l drops out of OD it literally throws you back in the seat and starts gaining r's to upshift back into OD, on the upgrade of the hill!!
Right now, my 6.7l is suffering from a stuck EGR valve. STAR won't let my dealer just replace it. They have to jump thru some hurdles like getting an "EGR Kit" and cleaning it out before they can just replace the $700.00 valve. Frustrating yes, but I would'nt go back. I'm sure fuel mileage will be back on track once they get this problem resolved. Might as well get used to the "greener" cleaner stuff - it's here to stay. Sorry for the long post.
Just my .05

I just had my new truck re-flashed this morning (2007 3500 RAM/6.7 CTD/6-speed manual/about 1600 miles). I must say, I'm impressed with the increase in performance. The idle seems smoother and she reaches 1800-2000 RPM (my shift point) a little quicker than before. I can't wait to perform a mileage test. I wasn't too impressed with the avg. 12 MPG around town (hand calculated) I was getting before.
