Can you explain the lockup on the converter to someone who is new to this stuff. What causes it to lockup early?

It's hard to sell one of these trucks right now. I have tried and had no luck so I stripped it down and it may be traded in if I decide to get the new truck. We'll see what happens in the very near future.......

sure hope after the new turbo is put on my 07.5 tomorrow, I will have better luck. So far I've had 4 CELs with all 4 relating to emissions 2 of them were p2262 which is why I'm getting a new turbo tomorrow. I guess time will tell, I hope Chrysler does something for the ones that have had issues and turbos swapped. The "informative" disk was a nice touch but that is not going to help me when the truck has 100k+ miles and the turbo decides to not work properly. I've owned it for 8months and 13000miles of reflashes, DPF cleanups and now new turbo. I guess time will tell. I wish you guy's with 08s that the bugs have been taken cared of and you continue with the good luck.

No problems whatsoever at 4,500 miles. Truck is worked hard in and out of 4x4. Towing and interstate MPG within 1 MPG of my 06' 5.9.

So far, it's a 100 point ride.

Well this is my first Dodge and I like it. I have had a few F**d's and really didn't have to good of luck with the last one. I work for a fire dept and we had some Ford people to look at a mini pumper we have (Ford F-450). After talking with them they let me drive a 2008 F-350 with the 6.4 diesel and hell you guys thing the 6.7 gets bad mileage, try 10.8 mpg highway with 11,000 miles on the clock and a stuck fan clutch so it was screaming all the way. My Dodge by far is faster and gets better mileage than the F**d's. Just my .02

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum. I am looking at the new Dodge 2500 SLT in Diesel with the short bed. I have a 97 5.9 gas in the same configuration. I soon will be new to the Diesel. I do some towing of my boat but was wondering about the 6 speed automatic transmission and if they are really that good ? From reading above people do like them alot...
Any positive / negative feedback on the transmission for the 2008 ?

I know I am pulling light loads, but plan to purchase a larger boat in near future. On my way home I do deal with traffic so there may be a few miles 5 - 10 that I am going 30 - 50 mph. I feel Dodge had no business releasing this motor yet. We should not be there guinea pigs to work out the bugs in these new motors. It is evident that they don't have a clue how to fix the issues with the number of flashes that have come out and probably still to come. If the company line is these are not daily drivers then they should let the dealerships know that so they can pass it on to the consumer.

When I drive one, I leave it on all the time. It is a great feature that really is the only one true technical performance advantage the cummins has over the other 2. I wish Dodge would market it more, they would prolly sell more trucks. They should set up a "test drive" on a big downhill with a big trailer and let people try it with the 6.7L with vgt braking and then let them try it with the chevy or ford. Gauranteed to convert people.

Yes, the exhaust brake will only work if the torque converter is completely locked (as in no slipping). If you were to engage the brake when the TC is slipping, you would put excessive wear/tear on the TC and prematurely fail it.

This is the same as in the 48re on 5.9L trucks (Model years 06 and 07 only) with the Jacobs exhaust brake. The brake will only come on when the TC is locked, which can cause some harsh downshifting when the driver is commanding the brake to be on, but the TC is not locked.

I'm confused at the MPG numbers on these new 6.7's? One would assume that paying a 7K premium over the gas model combined with diesel costing about 10-15% more at the pump should garner up much better numbers than 14-15 MPG on the highway. I would be beyond peeved to spend all that loot and walk away with Hemi mileage returns!

I dunno about the others but my old 5.9 gets 20-21 MPG on the Hwy figured on paper. Love the 08's 6 speed auto and the factory Jake brake is smokin hot....maybe when my old turd is all wore out they will be getting better economy out of the new motor!

The TC basically takes the place of the clutch pedal on a manual transmission vehicle.

Anytime the TC is not locked up, you introduce mechanical inefficiency because you are appying power from the engine that is not completely being transferred to the driveshaft. The power is being converted from mechanical energy (toque from engine) to heat from the TC slipping. If the TC is 80% locked, the other 20% is being wasted. So you really want the TC to lock as soon as possible, but locking it too early causes harsh shifting and durability issues.

That would be true if all the hemi's were getting 14-15mpg. I bet there are a lot of guys getting 10-12mpg with their hemi just like some guys with diesels are getting 14-15, while others are seeing 18-19.
