It was getting between 13.2 and 13.5 in all town driving. After my highway trip it is getting 14.4 on the overhead. This info is all overhead but hand calced is about .2 difference

2008 has been awful

I have 2008 Dodge Ram since mid December with approxamately 5200 miles on it and it has been to the shop 5 times every two to three weeks with CEL and P2000 codes. The dealership has performed latest flashes and G30 recall. I like the truck but I am getting tired of CEL. I am considering lemon lawing this vehicle if it happens 1 more time.

Bummer. That's the first 08 with troubles I've seen. Whats your build date?

All the issues with the emissions gear have seemed to die out but the only remaining thing is the reports of slightly lower mpg's. Although it is important to me, it's a bigger engine and it's a truck...oh yeah, and something about the environment

One thing I noticed when I took the 6.7 for a spin (didn't think was worth a new thread) was that it didn't have much of the cummins shakedown/rattle when turning it off. Has anyone else noticed this??
They use the intake air throttle (butterfly valve) to smoothly shut down the engine. No more belt chirp.

So, since it's a 6 speed does that mean there is no lockup converter anymore?
both the manual and auto transmissions are six speeds. The auto does still have a torque converter. It would be pretty hard to shift without one (does the same thing as a clutch on a manual trans).

I know they still have a torque converter. It's the "Lockup" feature I was inquiring about..

HOV, the NAV is already out of my truck just sitting in a box waiting for a new home along with the antenna and dash bezel...... It all depends on what I end up with.
The really, really, really smart thing for me to do, which has been mentioned on this board several times, is for me to keep this truck and just buy a commuter vehicle with an auto trans. I just don't like cars. I like a big vehicle and those, of course use big amounts of fuel......... I'm gonna pull my hair out trying to figure out what's best to do. To top it off, I went to look at an 06 Mega last weekend and on the way down I noticed my rear pinion seal was leaking pretty bad. Now it's in the shop for the first time since owning it and there is not a seal anywhere close. I have to wait until tomorrow before it gets fixed. I'm driving a 15' box truck in the meantime. At least it has an auto trans.......

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but yes, the auto still has a lockup feature. I'm still a little confused though. The sooner you lockup the torque converter, the better your fuel economy will be. The problem is the sooner you lock up the converter, the more torque is applied to the converter which creates a durability issue. That's why the guys with the after market torque converters and transmissions get much better fuel economy (they can lock the TC up earlier with no worries of spewing parts out the case).

To me it seems like the torque converter is locked up when you have the exhaust brake on ,does anybody leave it on all the time

Cool, I'll take that off your hands should you buy a new vehicle with nav.
