2" front leveling kit/spacers

I plan on having the 2" leveling spacers installed on the front of my truck. I called a place about parts and installation and they advised I would also need new front shocks because the stock shocks wouldn't be long enough. This is the first I heard of this. Has anyone had any issues with the shocks not being long enough or is the place just trying to sell me some shocks? Please direct me to the thread if this has already been discussed. Thanks.

I agree bought the same top gun customz kit and love it, took my local shop about 2 hours to do it for me. This isnt an install you can do at home unless you have some gnarly spring compressors. Another shop told me they wouldnt do it cause the front springs on these trucks are like rail car springs and very hard to compress. Also i had to do alot of fender/cab trimming to get my 35's to clear. Im running 35/12.5/20 Nitto Mud grapplers so the extra height from the lugs may have contributed to the rubbing. My shop said its hit and miss with these trucks, some rub some dont.

good point, i should have said that it's an easy install if you have some heavy duty spring compressors. i did have some, but i was still paranoind about them breaking and getting my fingers ripped off!!

I've read on here it's easy to do yourself if you take off the track bar so the axle will drop more, the spring just falls out so I hear (I haven't actually done it though).
A leveling kit is on my wish list but I don't know whether to go with spacers or new springs...

this is super easy to do!! Takes less than an hour each side and you don't need any special tools. The trick is to remove the sway bar linkage not the track bar. I use a 2x4 to push the axle down and the spring pops right out. Having 2 floor jacks helps, but you can do it with one floor jack and the stock jack that comes with the truck.

How's the quality on the Top Gun leveling spacers?

Reason I ask is that 99% of the rest of the kits I've seen out on the market are 2.5x more expensive. Not equating cost with quality, but that's a pretty big difference just for parts. The one I've been eyeing is the Truxx model - http://truxxx.com/dodge_products/605020.htm

Spacer

I put a 2 1/2 inch on mine with no problems with the shocks or anything. It took a couple hours with the help of a friend 2 jack stands and a floor jack. I used the spacers from hell bent steel. They are a really good price and really good quaility. They come powder coated black.

Are you guys doing alignments after it's done? Any issues with driveshaft angles or binding (don't think there would be)? How about towing issues? I was looking at doing that after I build my replacement bumper.

The Hell Bent Steel pucks from Fat Bob's are terrific, very well built. The stock front shocks will reach their rebound limit sooner but unless you are offroading to the point of needing a fair amount of articulation it isn't a problem. If you want to play it safe Bilstein has their 5100 series which are built for the 2" extra travel.

Many haven't gotten an alignment after a leveling puck install without issue but I am from the school of getting an alignment anytime the front suspension is taken apart. I got one shortly after installing my pucks and there wasn't really anything off on the front end. Each truck is different though so I still recommend an alignment after installing leveling pucks.

No issue with driveshaft angle or towing. Of course I've had firestone ride rite's under the back to keep my truck level when the trailer is hooked for quite some time.
