1500+ mile trip, mileage report, best yet
Just thought I would share my results of a recent trip I took, bobtail, with the new truck. I sold my motorcycle to a gentleman in Pensacola, FL and he paid me to deliver it to his doorstep so for the first half of the trip, the truck was outfitted as such:
I will be the first to say it, I should have bought a long bed. Ah well, maybe next time...lol...for comparison's sake, here is the trucks vitals for this trip:
-6.7L CTD, all emissions in place, all stock
-G56 6-Speed Manual Transmission, all stock
-3.42 gears
-325/70R17 tires with speedometer calibrated perfectly as verified by Magellan GPS
-19860 miles at time of departure
-Amsoil 5w40 CJ-4 Synthetic oil with Wix oil filter, replaced right before departure
-Amsoil Universal Synthetic ATF (ATF+4 compatible) in transmission and transfer case, replaced right before departure
-Amsoil 75w90 gear oil in front and rear differentials, replaced right before departure
-MOPAR fuel filter, replaced right before departure
-Amsoil Nanofiber air filter, replaced right before departure
-Bully Dog on STOCK setting; only installed for tire size correction
-Cruise control used for entire trip, set at 63mph (1600rpm in 6th gear)
I fueled 3 times, here are the numbers:
Fill stop #1, Hammond, LA
Miles on tank: 552.3
Total miles: 552.3
Gallons filled: 31.766
Total gallons: 31.766
Hand calculated MPG: 17.387
Average trip MPG: 17.387
EVIC MPG: 19.0
Fill stop #2, Iowa, LA
Miles on tank: 590.6
Total miles: 1142.9
Gallons filled: 33.122
Total gallons: 64.888
Hand calculated MPG: 17.831
Average trip MPG: 17.613
EVIC MPG: 19.6
Fill stop #3, Alice, TX
Miles on tank: 391.7
Total miles: 1534.6
Gallons filled: 22.132
Total gallons: 87.02
Hand calculated MPG: 17.698
Average trip MPG: 17.635
EVIC MPG: 17.5
Note: The EVIC was reset right as the trip began and was NOT reset again for the remainder of the trip. I find it interesting that it was so far off for the first 1100 miles then gradually came down to become almost perfectly accurate by the end of the 1500 mile trip.
Note: My MIL came on while in Pensacola. I pulled both p2262 and p0513 codes from my scanner. Great, turbo is gummed up. After 760 miles of freeway driving and the EB on 100% of the time, the turbo STILL gets clogged up from the EGR. Nothing I could do about it, so I headed home. After my 2nd fuel stop in Iowa, LA, the light did not come back on and has not returned. The codes are still stored, however, and the truck is currently at the dealership getting the turbo cleaned.
Synopsis: I don't know if it is the fact that the truck is now over 20K miles and getting broken in or the Amsoil fluids throughout or the 3.42 gears with taller tires, but the mileage is almost bearable now. I was ALMOST to the point of deciding to leave well enough alone on this truck and deal with mileage in the 17's. That is, until the MIL came on AGAIN. That was the last straw. Parts are going to start falling off my truck ASAFP. I will NOT tolerate the EPA taking my $40000 truck and making it become a repair-queen at my expense. So, very soon, my brand new pickup will be "For Off-Road Use Only."
Just thought I would share this little trip report for others to compare to.

Good data set.
I've observed the same with the EVIC. I don't ever reset mine. It is accurate within .5 MPG.
Ya couldn't go 10 more miles and join the 600 mile club???

You know, I was thinking just that. However, the low fuel light had JUST dinged and I wasn't sure how far until the next truck stop. I knew the Love's at exit 43 on I-10 in LA had ULSD so I just went ahead and stopped. I could have put the 4 gallons in the diesel can in the bed into the tank and tried to stretch it to the 700 mile club, but didn't want to risk it...lol

not without tripping a soft code. however, i am to the point where i am willing to deal with having the Edge clear them at startup until a code free system becomes available at which point i will upgrade to that system.
