'08 Auto Tranny Shifting...normal?
Ok. So keep in mind I'm still new to towing, only had this truck 2 months, and yes I did search. lol.
So I was driving the other day hauling a full load (around 6k lbs). Had tow/haul turned on, exhaust brake turned on. Was driving about 40-42 mph, came down a small hill and the ex brake kicked on of course. Then, the truck downshifted, RPMs shot up to over 3k and of course the truck slowed down. But my question is...is this ok? I mean, the thing redlines at 3200 and I just didn't like it. I haven't used tow/haul since. Scared to.
Next question. When driving, towing or not, if I pull out from a stop, give it gas, go say barely 100 yards on level land, don't even get above 15-20 mph, let off the gas, the thing downshifts with a massive jerk. Is this normal? Do I need to change my driving style? It does this with the exhaust brake on or off.
I hope you all can help me. If it is normal or I need to change my driving style, please let me know. I'm open to suggestions!
Thanks in advance!

Mine does that too sometimes. I just try not to lift my foot until I am up to 4th or 5th gear if possible. Your other option is to manually shift...
The Tow/Haul / E-Brake combo can be pretty aggressive but that's the way Dodge made it and I just let it do it's thing. I have found that a tap on the brakes right when I know it's about to downshift really helps to soften the harshness somewhat...

At 7,000 miles now, and several trips towing. The auto/tow-haul plus exhaust brake takes some time to get used to. Definitely not a no-brainer. I don't mind doing the thinking, so I use whatever gear, tow-haul on/off, EB on or off combination that works for me and the truck at the time. I tow over mountains and flats and overall really like the features this truck has.
