07.5 6.7 suggestions or comments please

I purchased a 07.5 mega cab a month or so ago. I previously had an 06 5.9 with 100k on it and not a single problem ever and it was my welding rig and I wrecked it. I got a chevy welding rig and then bought the wife a mega cab, stole her chevy for my uses. The mega cab has had three check engine lights so far. One for emissions and two for turbo sensor or something of the sort. I want to do all the delete stuff. I was going to put a turbo back 4" a smarty and a egr and cooler delete. I know I will have a warranty issue but I hate this check engine crap all the time. After doing all this will I have any other issues with the engine or transmission? Its an auto by the way. I don't want a bunch or horsepower or anything just a good running truck with no issues. I know this has been covered I am sure but I want to ask the questions myself. Anything else I should do to curb any other issues? Any comments or opinions are welcomed and appreciated.

Youre on the right track.

Full deletes and a Smarty are the way to go. Look into a set of gauges or a digital monitor also.

As long as you keep it at SW3 or lower youll be ok. I run the snot outta mine and everything is good so far.

thank you. Should I just do the full exhaust from the turbo back? I will for sure do the egr delete, should I also do the throttle valve delete or just unplug it. Anything else I would need to do. I would like to order everything at one time from one place if possible. Any recomendations

I recommend deleting everything if you can do so, pending your emissions testing woes, budget etc.

I have 4" TBE exhaust, EGR and Cooler Delete, and the Throttle valve delete, and the Smarty. Its clean air in, black smoke out, no CEL's and a Happy 6.7!

Dont forget some type of gauges or electronic monitor. I have a set of Autometer "Factory Matched" gauges, EGT, Boost, Tranny Temp. Can post up pics if you like. The Edge Insight is also a great electronic option.

Give Top a ring at the DTR store. He can get everything you need.

yeah I would like a pic that would be awesome. I see you are a pipeliner? Thats right on man I am also a rig welder, we do some pipeline here in NM and Colorado but mostly location hook ups and compressor sets along with maintenance for the major companies around here such as BP Chevron and Conoco and many small companies. I bet the heat is killer down there right now. Thanks for the help by the way

Heat is brutal right now, but I got the good gig... Got my CWI and never looked back...

We are doing some Kinder Morgan work right now relocating two 30's and a 36.

Here are a couple of shots of the gauges, dead on match for the factory, and they are Autometer so quality too.

I removed my TV so I didnt have to worry about the butterfly closing. I used a Glacier Diesel kit on mine. For the exhaust you can run a 04.5+ 5.9 TBE, that will remove all the nonsense in the pipe. Remove and block off the EGR with an EGR delete kit. Like Blake said, look into a good set of gauges as well. It will feel like a whole new truck once you delete everything. Good luck.

I am also getting to the delete everything point. I have just a few more questions. Does a cold air intake really compliment the system or is it hype? How much black smoke we talkin' here? The gauges look really cool but are they necessary, I mean, am I now forced monitor something else that may go wrong due to the deletes? And finally, 'Blake Clark' mentioned keeping something at 'SW3' or lower, what is SW3? Thanks in advamce.

SW3 is the 60hp Smarty Program

Here is the data taken from the Smarty website.

* SW # 0 : Half power
* SW # 1 : 30 Hp increase, with added timing
* SW # 2 : 60 Hp increase, no added timing ***
* SW # 3 : 60 Hp increase, with added timing
* SW # 4 : 90 Hp increase, no added timing ***
* SW # 5 : 90 Hp increase, with added timing
* SW # 6 : 130 Hp increase, no added timing ***
* SW # 7 : 130 Hp increase, with added timing
* SW # 8 : 170 Hp increase, no added timing *** °°°
* SW # 9 : 170 Hp increase, with added timing °°°
A CAI allows for better flow, not to mention better filtration, and IMO does compliment the deletes nicely.

Plus if you like that turbo whine, it sure lets the VGT sing....

With the lower catcher settings you wont get much more smoke that a light haze standing on it at full throttle. Marco wrote the programming for minimal smoke output, but it is there, letting you know that your 6.7 is not suffocating on it.

You dont have to put gauges if you dont want, but I, as well as most guys here feel gauges should be standard on even a STOCK truck. I like knowing what is going on with my vehicle and gauges are the best way to do that while operating.

Regarding gauges, I really like the Edge Insight. Plugs into the OBDII port and with the dash mount, it gives the interior a nice clean look. I had the A pillar gauges on my 2000, while I really like the analog gauges, I found it blocked off my view too much and I almost ran over someone because they were in my blind spot.

Want to know about the California deletes and gauges? Just the basics with minimal $, time, complexity with full benefits for the motor/mpg, etc.

Follow this to a "T"
http://www.madselectronics.com/CodeFreeDPF_EGRDelete.html

Get yourself a delete pipe and an Edge Insight. You'll be covered and can upgrade the extent of the deletes and gauges from there if you want to down the road as the need may arise or not.

Also,

Keep in mind that if you dont need the full version of the Smarty, you can always opt for the Smarty Jr. Full benifits of the Smarty Sr with lowered power levels and a smaller price tag.

Man, Sounds like I should be doing commercials for Marco....

Oh... and while Im at it,

Dont forget to check out the DTR store and support our great site. Dont see what you need. PM Lary Ellis (Top) and he can get whatever it is you want.

Nice cowboy hat there Blake! Just when I was getting used to that black oil rag you've been using to clean up all that spill oil over there .

Good point on the Smarty Jr. Had it been available back when I did my deletes, I would have opted for it.
