Winter gelling

Most of the fuel this time of year in Wyoming is a 60/40 blend with 60% being #1. The claim is that it takes -40 to gell. We have not seen -40 in our area for years. On recommendation direct from Cummins, I do not use additives. What are the opinions for rethinking this for winter?

Only 100% number one is good to -40. A 50/50 blend is supposedly good to -20 and winter number 2 has a cold filter plug point of 0 degrees. Lots of people try to get by with number 2 and additive, but it just doesn't work. I am running blend and a winter additive from John Deere. No problems so far and we had -22 about ten days ago.

I live in Michigan,it gets pretty cold here also.IMHO I would use fuel conditioners in cold weather states.I use stanadyne PF and primrose products,so far so good with around 46,000 miles on the OD. coobie
