Winter fronts .....

do they help any at all?

I live in nothern Wisconsin about 10 minutes from my work. I just barely start getting heat about the time I get to work. The needle just barely off 140 when I get there. Do those winter fronts do any good?

I'm sure they work good, but there is no air for the trans, oil, or PS cooler. Is this a problem or am I just too worried about overheating?

No problems,I am running the BD X-moniter in my truck.I usally close all the flaps on my Mopar winterfront when temps are below 15-20 degrees.I open the flaps when the temps rise.I installed mine in late Dec.My tranny temps run 168-172 degrees with all the flaps closed at 15 degrees.coobie

Cold fronts work very well, on my 01 I monitor temp at the air horn (its for my ram air system) anyway there is about a 40* difference when cold fronts are on, optimum air temp at the horn is 70-90* and if you can maintain that you will actually gain on your effeciency. There are other bennifits like having the all mighty cummins up to temp so any fuel will flash out of your oil, fuel will get into your oil when the motor is cold and needs to be flashed off. I recently put Lund cold fronts on my wifes 04.5 and it warms up a heck of a lot faster now,

Dont worry about overheating, a diesel motor only uses 20% of its cooling capacity during normal driving, once when summer hit us overnight it got up to 65* and with my cold fronts still on the fan still never came on.

Cheers, Kevin

I'm getting one then. The cardboard thing scares me. I already had a fan fail and come apart doing about $700 in damage.

How much did you pay for the winter front?

This man knows what he's talking about . Attention all diesel newbie commuter truck/short trippers. Words of dirty fingernails ...... Your cummins diesel is a work engine so drive it differently. No more short cold trips, yah yah how inconvienent.... too bad. Take the wifes car or drive your motor till it reaches operating temps. By the way lets not snivel about ticking/knocking till you put a ton in that bed and drive up a six percent grade. Then and only then will you appreciate that sweet engine. By DESIGN this motor can work 24/7 at peak rpms. Think about it or drive a gasser....rant over

Anyone have the part number handy for the Mopar winter front from the previous posts that everyone seems to be so satisfied with?
