Windshield fogging up?

My windshield seems to be fogging up more than I remember in the past. Is this a sign of something going wrong? Is my heater core going bad? Maybe a drain clogged somewhere? I keep telling myself it is because the air is starting to get cool as fall comes around but I just don't remember this happening other years.

Thanks, Jeff

From my past experiences it is the heater core starting to go, if it is you'll soon be able to smell antifreeze and then they usually start to leak. Haven't heard of one going in our trucks yet but bummer if it is.

yep sounds heater coreish to me too.....go to Autozone and borrow their coolant pressure tester and pump up the system and see if you are loosing pressure.......

I wouldnt wish that on anyone. Why these manufactures dont have an a easy access panel to get at the core. I swear they build the whole dang truck around the heater core which they first intomb in a box from hell. Well I might wish it on someone but no one here.

would pumping up the system show a leak? Wouldn't that be on the other side of the thermostat?

the dealer told me to just turn on the AC button even if you have your heater on.. it works.. run heat and push the snow flake button, no more fog.

I do not know if the CDT does it but on a lot of vehicles soon as you put the lever in defrost mode the AC is turned. The dryer in the AC system keeps the windows fog free. I run my AC in the on mode all the time.

If it is the heater core usually there well be a film build up on the inside of the windshield that is really hard to wipe off even with a good glass cleaner. As the hole gets bigger you well really start to see the fog comimg out the vents. If it is the heater core and the dash has to come out I would look at getting that fin temp thing done to the A/C at the same time, if it hasnt been down yet that is.

It still pumps up the whole system...

yes if you are fogging the windows up and the truck is on recirculation mode then it will fog BAD..but soon as you put it on defrost it should kick the ac on.

Check your freon, make sure the A/C works if you dont have a leaking heater core. The A/C dehumidifies the defrost and recirculate air. If you are just running the heater then put on recirculate and see if this clears up the problem.

I run my A/C all the time and drive my wife crazy. She says I turn her into a popcycle. Anyway, that will help with the fogged up windows.

If the heater core is leaking there will be discoloration( the same color as the antifreeze) comming out the condensate drip tube under the truck. Collect some and Smell it to see if it smells like antifreeze.

If you put the temperture control in the red the heater works fine.

The windshield just may be dirtier than usual or you've used a window cleaner that leaves a film. You may want to clean the windshield and use one of those anti fog products before tearing into the dash.
